Boy is Saved From 7
Mad Dog by Plucky 3
Act of Pet Terries
The reckless courage of a pet rox-ter-rler
saved the life of little 10-year-old-,
Howard Bettge. 2903 Farnam street, when
It heroically attacked a mad dog twice '
Its file, which had viciously bitten his
master about the face and arms.
, The boy was playing In front of his
home when the erased canine appeared
snarling and snapping at everything In
sight. . It saw the lad and before hor
rified neighbors could interfere, it had
torn a deep gash In one cheek and badly.,
lacerated one arm, and waa still hanging.1
dn. The neighbors were too frightened,'
to Interfere, but the fox-terrier was not
lacking In courage, for springing up front
a pillow upon which he had beeijv
sleeplng, he darted like an arrow.:',
straight at the throat of the larger dog.' '
The enemy loosed Ills hold ' from the
chlld and turned its attention toward
his adversary, and in the meantime t he
child reached safety.
The fox-terrier had a death hold on "
the larger animal and would have klllddjf
It had not one of the witnesses interfered, '
allowing the animal to escape.
The Injured boy was hurried to police a
headquarters where Dr. : Vanderhooi-"
cauterized the wounds and took the nec"
essary precautions against hydrophobia
From the actions of the dog,, and tha
wound, it is believed that It was suffer
lng from rabies, and the police are seek"
Ing it. Should the little victim's eondt,
tton warrant, he will be sent. to the Pa1
tuer Institute at Chicago. forareatment'i;;
