THE BEE: OMAHA, MONDAY, JULY 1, 1912. Desperate Desmond 6 Lucky for Claude the Pole Vaulter Came I : 13wT O avioVi fi llti Along in Time to ToU the Villain. Dy OCI UllllClU i I I.-THE VILLAIN'S PLAN. . Believing that the games will occupy all eyes, Desperate Desmond reaolvea to steal the beautiful Rosamond from her place In the grandstand. Just as Des mond gets near the unsuspecting girl ha notices that Claude Is about to race past, and the villain has no taste for a fight In the open field. II.-"ON YOUR MARKS." Claude Eclaire, hero and patriot, is In Sweden to help out America In the Olyp plc games. s You see him above, ready to start In one of the sprint races for the championship of the world. The men from various nations are all waiting the starter's pistol, but Claude haa vowed to beat them all. III.-THB LOADED PISTOL. . Crafty Desmond! With a loaded pistol In his hand he climbs to the top of the grandstand and takes careful aim at Claude Eclaire.' When the starter fires bit pistol to send the athletes on their Journey, Desmond will shoot Claude at the same instant. The two reports will sound as one. IV. A LATE ARRIVAL- ; Back to the grounds hurries an athlete who had gone outside for a home-cooked lunch. The athlete hears the words of the starter as he prepares to fire his pistol . and fears that he will be lata However, he is a wonderful pole vaulter, so he decides to save time , by clearing the grandstand. V.-DISCOVERED! t 'As the pole vaulter gracefully skims over the top of the grandstand his foot knocks off a hat To the athlete's aston ishment he sees below him a man aiming ' ; a pistol at Claude Eclaire, the atar of ' the Olympic games. Hastily shouting a warning, the pole vaulter hops to the field. VI.-"AFTER HIM, BOYS! "Ay ban boy!" cries Desperate Des mond, "but Ay skol beat it." , Claude Eclaire is after the scoundrel, and the" other athletes are after him also. The grandstand is surrounded and Desmond must soon be captured and punished. For details of the man hunt see tomor row's paper.
