today made another very decided move
In the direction of higher prices.
The Initial dealings followed London's
lead by registering many declines of one

on outside account at prices fully a
nickel higher. Packers could not be In
duced to pay the advance, however, and
as ahlppera retired from the trade, the
market weakened, becoming steady to a
little easier. Poor competition was a fea
ture throughout and movement after the
first few rounds proved decidedly dull.
Receipts were estimated at a short 100
loads, about one-fourth pf thus total
moving on outside order that favored
qualltv rather than weight. Reluctant
buing on local slaughter account was
explained by doubtful advices from Chi
cago and elsewhere, heavy stocks of pro
visions snd the pronounced stmllnrlty be

well along toward midday.

SHEEP Condit Inns surrounding the
sheep and lamb trade were not materially
different from those existing at last
week s close. Parkers needed killing
stock and were willing to load up at
generally steady prices, but refused to
pay any more than they did last Friday,
even for the good to cholc offerings. In
spots the market ruled a little easier,
especially toward the doa of the session.
Receipt were moderate, amounting to
about 5.(110 head, and wooled atrlngs were
the general rule with lamb more plenti
ful than eheep. Something like eight
loads of shorn lambs were Included In the
run.
1,'nllk last week's trade her waa only
a stack demand for shearing lambs In
flesh, and bulk sold to packer. Some
loppy Mexicans ' changed hands at th
even mo net'. 48.00. and a band of fairly
good wetsesns brought I7.es. shorn lambs
sold all th way from Vi.75 to 17.15. There
were no nrlnger of ooinequence on
sale.
Business In sheep lacked else, only a
few loads of awes and wethers showing
up. Mexican ewes In the wool made a
rredltsble top of M.M and less desirable
westerns sold unevenly below the MOV
msrk. Wethers ever quotable up to Mel
or better, but nothing of this description
arrived. Feeder proved very scarce In
all branchea of the market and the
country demand waa also dull and llmi
ited. Last week' country buy of 8,200
head consisted si moat entirely of shear
ing stock that got tit benefit ot packing
competition.

Two Persons Killed

a score Injured, several seriously, when

Ohr Lady ot Victory late today precipi
tated nearly 300 persona Into the basn-

Ithe church was only partly completed

connection with the formal ceremonies of

The collapse ot the floor came while an

of five craft organisations ot
railway shopmen are her to attend a
meeting tomorrow at which it Is proposed
to perfect a federation embracing 200,000
shop urn employed by forty-seven rail
roads west ot the Mississippi river.
It is the aim to unite all the mechan
ical ttkdss so that concerted action may
bo taken when differences arise between
the unions and the railroads. In case ot '
strikes all railroads tn the same territory
will bet Involved simultaneously.
Marxrh 4 was originally set for the meet
ing, but It was postponed by the Inter
national officers of th unions, who said
.publicity bad interfered with their plans.

Henri Brisson Dies
Suddenly in Paris
PARIS, April la-Henrl Bris-on. presi
dent at the Chamber of Deputies, died
today. He was born at Bourgeois, July
31. 1S5.
11. Brisson was taken ill Wednesday
with an Intestinal disorder, to which he
bad long been Sub?ct. His condition was
not thought serioua at first, but on Sat
urday ha became suddenly worse. It was .
then realised that there was very Uttie
hope for recovery,, aa his weakened .con
dition mad an oprratlon impossible, lie
sank rapidly and died Sunday morulnu.
