figures waa disappointing to the bulls.

of cattle at thla point today, making th
total for the week to date 16.11! head,
the lararest run since four Weeks SgO, but
smaller than a year ago by about ISoi
head. At the same time otner points wore
reporting heavy receipts, Chicago espe
cially having a very large run. Advices
from other selling points under existing
conditions stsrted out very favorable,
which naturally gave the market at this
point a weak tone.
While the feeling In beef tears was
generally lower than yesterday the mar
ket aturted out with a very fair demand
and buyers picked up the more desirable
of the cattle at prices tnat were nine 11
any different than those of yesterday.
In fact, the majority of salesmen were
calling the early market steady with
yesterday. Some MKlit food cattle, bet
ter than anything aeen la the yards for
some Hill time back, brought i to. the
high price of ths dsy.
Cows and heifers were also In very fair
demand and the market. If anything, la
belter than had been anticipated. The
better grades of cow stuff commanded
about the same prl.es as yesterday. The
less desirable kinds, that Is stuff that
buyers did not seem to take to, had a
tittle lower tendency
There wore very few light good feeders
In the yards. In f"t there have been
very few cattle ot that description seen
at this point fur a long time back, and
they command about steady prices. On
the other hand the medium kinds ot feed
era went alow lo luc lower. Light stork
cattl were extremely hard to move nt
any price. The market 011 cattle uf that
description was tha same as It has been
for aeveraj weeks back, extremely dull
and weak.

confronted with a situation that was not
very promising at the opening of the mar
ket, receipts proving heavy with outside
advices more or leas bearish. Bestdee

appearances proposed to buy cautiously
at cheaper levels.
This attitude did not get them many
sheep or lamos, however, and as soon aa It

most of the good to choice classes In
cluded in early arrivals .had changed
hands.
The run of l!.Ss head brought in A
goodly supply of medium stuff, but sev
eral trains were late In showing up and
the less attractive kinds found a reason
ably broad outlet In most cases, at least
until late offerings were thrown on the
market. Toward midday the demand be
came rather quiet with the tendency to
values weaker, half-tat stock holding at
the usual liberal discounts under well
finished varieties. .
The best enrnfed lambs on sale reached
6.sTi. with good to near prime. offering
selling at !.), WoO. . and W IS. Fair
to good lambs ranged from M-SS down
ward, culls moving below IT..40. There
were not many sheep on sale, wether
and yearlings being especially hard to
find, but good ewes sold at And ' near
M-Ou, and toppy wethers were wanted
around H50. Handy yearlings would
probably sell at fair quality lamb prices.
Feeder sold in small, scattered lotl at
generally firm prices, the demand and
supply both being small. The two days'
purchase on country account, acoordtng
to packers' tab, amount to only l.tXA

Health Commissioner Connell has had
a test made of the Carter lake Ice and
has pronounced It unfit for any purpose
except for cooling and 'refrigerating-. Ho
has given notice to parties taking lea
from this lake that they must not offer
it for sale for domestic purposes.
The health commissioner I making a
test of the ice from the river and from
th reservoirs of the water company. Tha
findings will be given out.
Heretofore, for cooling and refrigerAt
ing purposes parties have cut Ice from
Florence lake and the ponds around Car
ter lake. These places at this lime are
all dry and the only places where Ic
can be cut are the river. Carter lake and

OF OTHER LAW VIOLATIONS
Chafing under the prosecution of the
Oma hotel as the test case under tho Al
bert law. "Charley',' Fanning, th chief
owner, hsa addressed a letter to County
Attorney English complaining of another
Albert law violation, said to be at 1112
Farnam street and rails upon the county
attorney "to Investigate'' who the owner
ot this building Is. and who is running the
second and third floors of this building,
and to use the same diligence he has in
securing evidence agiilnst the Oma hotel."
Fanning also says in this document that
he assured County Attorney English and
Judge Troup that If the Oma hotel was
being run as complained or he would be
only too glad to have It closed and the
law enforced. If relieved of the penalties
for past conduct.

oss Judge Kennedy holds that the rights

After Jamleson and his first wife were
divorced' tha husband remarried. Hit
second wife had struggled for years ta

work and having kept boarder, having
kept. chicken aad. cows and having sold,

FOR LANE CUT-OFF ROAD
The Omaha ft Southwestern railroad,
better known as th Lane Cut-Off, whicli
cost mor per mile than any line In the
state, will get along this year without
holding an annual election, du to th
fact that It hat become th properly of
th Union Pacific.
Although but ten mile long the Cut-Oft
cost t4.Kn,onO, and most of this sum was
expended In cutting through the hill and
constructing an Immense fill just west ot
South Omaha.

secretary ot the Omaha A Southwestern.
Each year he has held an annual elec
tion, but there will be none this year. Tha
corporation still exists, but having sol. I
out, its property Is a minus quantity.
