WAPHINOTON, Jan. t -The National

The great fnr from the beginning of

today's meeting prcsmted a proposition
which proved nrceptnblo. It would re
strict the voting right of banks In cas
in which Individuals or corporations own
tock In more than one of them. The
i ffcet ot this provision would bo to limit
or prevent voting by banks owned or
partly owned by one stockholder or one
-rt of stockholders. It In In lino with
ho effort of the commission to avoid
the possibility of centralizing the power
to slinpo tho policy of the reserve asso

"0 QUESTIONS ARE AKSWERED
'.'ormrr President Una Interview
nltk (iarfteld In w ark,
After Wklch He Itetorns
to Oyster tiny.
OYSTER RAY, N. T.. Jan. tt.-Aftrr a
slk In New York with James It. C.arflrld
'ormer secretary of the Interior and a
coder of tho republican progressives of
Ohio, Colonel Roosevelt returned to
ivster Hay tonight.
The former president had Just one
hing to say. It was that he had no in
entlon of letting tho puboC know what
he thlnka about the selection of a re
publican candidate for president. He du
timed his intention of bottling himself
up at Sagamore Hill und refusing to
answer any question..
"Does that mean that your attitude
will remain a riddle from now until the
republican convention is held?" he wa
asked.
Colonel Roosevelt refused to qommlt
h'ir.'olf on that point, merely saying
that as far ahead as ho could see ho
would make bo public expression of his
position.
Sir. Garfield's Journey to New York at
this time was regarded as significant be
cause It followed so closely the conven
tion of Ohio republican progressive"!
whero he wns croilifej with having taken
a leading r art In dissuading the convention
from endorsing Ponator I.a Toilette for
the presidency. Neither Colonel Roose
velt nor Mr. Garfield would say a word
In regard to their conference. Mr. Gar
field succeeded In entering Colonel Rooso
velt's editorial office unseen and had been
thoro some time before his presenco was
known. He departed soon after and later
met Colonel Roosevelt at n club where
they were nblo to talk In seclusion.
Despltn this arrangement, Colonel
Roosevelt's presence at the club became
known and when he emerged to go to
hi train he found a squad of Interview-
era and photographer waiting.
The colonel was not at all pleased. He
said It was most offensive to be followed
to private clubs and that he regarded It
as an outrage.
Colonel Roosevelt saw many visitors
at his office today, but declined to ay
who they were, explaining that some of
