Ten thousand per sona carrying banners with the inscrip tion "death or Independence," marched to tha American legation today and ap pealed to the minister to urge the gov ernment to support the American prin ciple of fair play and love of J us ilea. Tha English community here Is aroused against Sir Edward Gray, the British foreign secretary, and think ; that Mr. Shuster, the treasurer general of Persia, outplayed him by revoking tha appoint ments of englishmen to which Sir Ed wsrd objected. The Tertian cabinet resigned today. . A email body of Coasaiks have arrived hero to protect the Russian .legation. Two hundred Ccsrackt . have reached Kaabln. The Ruaslao troops at Resht have dis armed the local Persian militia and oc cupied the telegraph office. They are acting as though war had been declared. ROBBER HAS TO ABANDON COAT Pletnres of Pretty ISIrln Stolen front ; Sontk Omaha Stadlo, All Otker Valnables Delatg Over looked by Tk teres. When the council meets this evening there will be presented to it a tentative proposition by which all the money realized from tha sale of -improvement bonds shall be put at interest with Spltier. Boric k company of Toledo, O.. at 4 per cent. Recently W. L. Long, representative of the Toledo firm, was here to take over an issue of bonds at 6' per cent. At that time the bonding company enterel Into an agreement whereby tbe "funtii leallstd from the sale of the bonds were to be left on call with them nt 4 per cent Intel est. The special' advantage of this agreement was that the city realized an additional interest amounting to 2 per cent more than that allowed by the local banks. ' F. J. Coad at the time of the recent deal frankly Informed the council that the deposit of the money In question waa w-orth no more than 2 per cent to the Packer's bank. The Spltzer company then offered 4 per cent, agreeing further tl,at ,ne money should always be on call and that interest should be paid thereon until the day of withdrawal. The city was to be furnished with certified checks of deposit cashable at any bank. This agreement was pleasing to the council and the Spltser people today will make an offer to take over all deposit money at the same rate. Of course this applies to the Improvement districts and can not affect the checking accounts of the treasurer. Will Annex Land. South Omaha while unwilling to be an nexed Is not averse to annexation. In this case the Magic City proposes to do the annexing not of Omaha, but of a piece of land contiguous to the northern city. South Omaha Intends tonight to ' pass an ordinance annexing Murray Hill addition. An Investigation of the matter Saturday showed . that the Commonwealth Realty company Is the owner of the strip. Thox land waa taxed by the South Omaba tax commissioner, who based his action on the county tax books. In the county tax commissioner's books the land was lo cated within the bounds of the Maglo City and Commissioner Fitzgerald, who Is bound to take the county books as tho basis for his calculations, rated the prop erty as South Omaha real estate. A pro test on the part of the Commonwealth Realty company showed that the property belonged to neither city. It now appear that South Omaha hos the right to annex the addition and to tax It. Tills will be done tonight, Robber Thwarted. It was a case of labor lost with tha prowler who robbed tha home of Frank Hart, 1225 North Twelfth street, yester day morning at 5 o'clock. From evidence gleaned by the - police . the thief stopped at Hart's residence to replenish his wardrobe. Carefully he pried open the window and effected an entrance. Carefully he tiptoed about until he came upon a nice warm overcoat. The mere sight of such a garment gave htm a thrill of pleasure and he hesitated not to appropriate It. But Just as the prowler stepped out of the house Hart awoke and gave chase. The burglar In his getaway found the coat too cumbersome for flight and dropped the garment In the yard. He took $2 which he had found in the pocket of the coat Girls' Pletnres Stolen. Pictures of the prettiest girls exhibited In the showcase of the Kosy studio at Twenty-fourth and L street were stolsn Saturday night. Nothing else was taken. Carl Kozy, who runs the place probably will be asked to furnish the police with the names of the girls whose pictures were stolen. Forward Movement Meeting;.
