CHICAGO. Nov. 24. On of tha largest
Chinese smuggling dens unearthed by
federal officers in year was revealed to
day when "Crappy". Nelson was arraigned
before United States Commissioner Foots,
chnrged with bringing Chinamen into thin
country from Canada. Twenty men
oharged with being implicated ln the plot
s under arrest In Chicago, New York;

alleged smugglers by his wife, a brldo of
a few months. Ha says the band brought
most of the Chinamen to thla country by
way of Windsor and Toronto, Canada, by
breaking the government' seal on freight
cars a few miles from the border, putting
the men In the cars and then sealing tha
doors again ln such a manner that detec
tion was avoided. According to Special
Agent Danneburg, members of tha gang
received $1,600 for delivering a Chinaman
from China either to Chicago or New
York and that $300 was the amount
charged fur bringing a Chinaman front
Canada to thla country.
The Chinamen, It Is said, arrived at
Vancouver, H, C, where they were put
to work until they had earned their
passage.
Later the Immigrant were taken either
to Windsor or Toronto by representative
of the alleged smuggler and brought into
thi country la freight car.
