CATTLE There was anjther fair run
of cattle today, but still the total for
tho two days amount to only 11,056 head,
a falling; off of almost 3,000 bead, as
compared with last week and of over
5,000 head as compared with two week
ago.. It win In fact the smallest run
since the beginning of the range season.
There were quite a good many range cat
tle in the yards, but R la very evident
from the character of the receipts that
the range season s very near the end.
The demand for desirable beef steers
was good and the market on anything
answering that description waa fairly ac
tive at prices that were fully steady to
a littlo stronger In some cases. The feel
ing was decidedly better than yesterday
and th cattle old much more freely.
Cow and heifers of the kind that buy
ers would naturally want were also quite
free sellers at prices that were steady to
a little stronger, the same as waa the
case with beef steers.
The best feeders were sought after at
good, steady prices, but the supply of
that kind of cattle was very light. On
the other hand the yards were full of
trash, the same as yesterday and for
that matter the same as on a good many
days of late. The trashy kind of cattle
were very. slow sellers and the tendency
was a little easier again today.

HOGS Opening trade In hogs ruled
fully 5c lower, bearish wires from the
east prompting the fresh decline. The
demand from all quarters had plenty of
breadth and activity, however, and after
early rounds the market gradually Im
proved, closing almost steady, with
yesterday. Hulk of offerings landed at
figures barely a nickel off. larger droves
cutting only a little less than the similar
dioves put up yesterday.
Movement during the latter part of the
session was lively enough to produce a
reasonably early clearance, despite a sup
ply of about .90O head, and the yards
were practically empty at 10:30 o'clock.
Shippers and spec.iiutprs made moat of
their selections during the first hour of
trading, about ten loads of various
weights moving on orders other than
local packing.
Weight was favored by at! regular buy
ers, the same as recently, and lard aver
ages generally sold at good premiums
over butcher and bacon classes. The
best lard hogs on sale made a top of
$6.25 as compared with yesterday' high
price of $0.30, and good butcher landed
around $6.15. Bacon animal weighing
around 200 pounds ranged from. $6.10 down
to less than $6.00. There were several
bunches of pigs Included In receipts, any.
thing healthy moving around $5.0XKu6.25.

SHEEP In most respect Bheep and
Iamb trade involved prices steady all
along the line. Aside from the fact
that packing demand was featured by
more freedom, the market as a whole
had few phases that were not ahown yes
terday. Receipts gave a total of fairly
iarge size and the ciiaracter of the run
was much the same as that of yesterday'
supply, fed and warmed-up classes consti
tuting ' bulk. tJome stubble-fed and
straight eras stock arrived from the
west, but range offerings are becoming
Bmaller each day, resulting In a feeder
display that lacks variety.
Fat eheep and lambs with dressing
promise were favored In killing circles,
the same a recently, nd sold more read
ily than the doubtful, warmed-up strings.
1'oppy fed native lambs reached $5.30
early and a near prime article landed at
$5.25. The market for inferior quality
lamb ruled largely under the $5.00 mark
and proved more or less erratic.
Mutured muttons moved off In good
season, but inquiry for big stuff waa by
no means urgent, as the product gener
ally 1 neglected when brought into com
petition with Thanksgiving poultry and
lamb. Killers 'assert that present pur
chases aie be.ng put away for future dis
posal and the fact that fat cheep aret ob
viously worth the money becomes th
only visible. Inducement in buying quar
ters. Fat rang wether sold early at $3.40
and a string of heavy wethers and year
lings realised I3.6U Ewe sales were in
frequent, but anything good In this line
would probably get action around 43.00.
Feeder trade waa given very fair sun-
port from country buyers and price re
mained lust aDout steady. Some warmed
up stuff waa taken out fur a second
finish at figures that aid not interest
rackers, but the feeder tr.tde in straight
rangers aXforded tne best opportunity for
selection. Yesterday's purchase on coun
try account amounted to only 8,600 head.
