the week toots up only ,u89 head, which
is sngntiy less tnan last week s rece.pis

was very apparent, however, that the re

apparently have been securing mora cat

country has been taking them and they,

vvhen tne came filially soiu prices were
any here from weak, to 1jc lower than
yesterday, and In soma cases possibly
worse than that. It is very hard work
to make a comparison one day with an
other this week, owing to tho fact that
prices have been tending steadily down
ward. It is easier to see the decline when
comparisons are made with a week ago,
when beef steers and feeders were around
itttoSc higher than they were today. The
nioit decline has been on the medium
kinds of cows, which aro around 4.Vu50c
lower than a week ago, with the better

f-HEKP Moderate supplies of sheep
and lambs met with a fairly active de
mand from all quarter and trading
started out In healthy form. Good fat
stock ruled about a dime higher In most
Instances, while feeder classes moved at
figures steady to possibly a little stronger.
Receipts amounted to less than 12,000
head, making a four davs' total of 144,000
head. The new offerings Included few
fnt sheep, the tame as recently, and un
finished strings from Wyoming were th
general rule.
Improvement In fat lambs was largely
reflected by sales of good westerns,
warmed-up stuff being neglected because
of Its doubtful dressing reputation. One
band of fed native lambs reached $6.75,
but they were not the kind that "passed
over a corn field In an aeroplane." West
erns are also quotable up to $6.75, some
75-pounders from Idaho bringing it yes
terday. Fat sheep with quality acted equally
as well as killing lambs but volume of
business was necessarily small. Choice
120-pound wethers that were cashed at.
$3.60 yesterday, brought $3.70 without
much of a work-out and good ewes
ranged around $3.0053.30. Fat yearlings
were the rarest article on the list, but
prices scored no advance that can be
quoted definitely.
Almost everything in the way of feed
ers changed hands yesterday, leaving tho
trade In good Bhape to handle the fresh
supply. Country demand seemed re
sponsive and broad at the opening and
outlook for complete clearance was
promising. Weighty lambs suitable for
dry-lot feeding drew the best Inquiry
and were purchased at $4.66 and better.
Plain little lambs got fair action under
$4.00, but prejudice against this class of
stock Is becoming more pronounced nd
the 353145-pound clusse are not very ready
sellers. Feeder ewes still moved at bar
gain rates, from $2.6002.66 down to $'.25
for the poorest culls. Three days' pur
chase of feeders on country account
amounts to 109,009 head.
