"Two Kentucklans who visited the show last winter In tbe Auditorium were so impressed by the exhibit from Great Falls, Mont., and the Information given by men accompanying the exhibit that they have taken forty-one Kentucky fam ilies to settle on the bench lands around Great rails,'" said Mr. Campbell. Bpeaktng of the popular subject of con- servatlon, Mr. Campbell said he sus pected that the definition given this word by William Hanley, a rancher of Burns, Ore., might be a pretty good one after all. Hanley bad been arrested for cutting down a juniper tree on the edge of a forest reserve. Mr. Campbell reports that the "gov ernors' apodal," which will tour the east In the interest of the development of the northwest, will leave Bt. Paul on Novem ber 27 on a tWO-mile trip to visit cltlee with a combined population of 13,462,000 people and that on board will be tbe governors of North Dakota, South Da kota, Minnesota, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and Wyom ing and five members of the board of director of tha Panama-Paclflo exposi tion. President Taft will hold an official re ception for the governors at tbe White House on December T. Silk Production is Portrayed at the Big Land Show The Industry of silk production, from the chrysalis, wrspped in Its cover of gloom, to the sheen and shimmer of the completed cloth, la something that may be Investigated this week at tbe Land show, where Ban Diego and Los An gelee have a silk worm exhibit as inter esting as It is unusual. Mrs. Carrie Williams, serlculturlst, has loaned the exhibit as representative ot the silk Industry of California. Every stage in tbe production of silk is por trayed. There Is the repulsive worm, tbe moth, the egg, tbe cocoon, the raw and the reeled silk and then the fine-spun threads ready for tha needle. This exhibit Is one ot tbe most com plete of its kind ever gathered. At the Alaska-Yukon-Pacifle exposition It wae shown and the Judge awarded It grand prize with little hesitancy. The exhibit is enclosed In a large glass case In the Ban Diego space and la the center of attrac tion for large crowds each day. Granite Boulder to Mark Oregon Trail . The Daugnters of the American Revo lution will place a large granite boulder on Centiiu buuUvard north cf Cuming etreet to mark the Oregon trail. Mra J. J. Btubbs, regent of tbe Omaha chapter, appeared before the park commissioners Tuesday aftennoon and obtained the nec essary permission. A fitting inscription will appear on the boulder. Borne years ago a monument In the form of a eua dial marked the Oregon trail at River view, but the sun dial was stolen. Rotary Club Has Good Words for the Omaha Land Show At a meeting held Tuesday evening at the Henabaw the OrAaha Rotary club paassd resolutions commending the Lend show and praising C. C Rosewater, promoter ot the ahow, and the liberal policy of The Omaha Bee In financing the enterprise. Wednesday, October J5, Paul P. Harris, President, and Chesley K. Perry, secre tary of the National Association of Ro tary Cluba, will be In Omaha. On this occasion two dozen laembers of the Lin coln organisation and six membera of the Kansas City club will be guests of the Omaha Rotarlans for luncheon. President Gould Diets will meet tbe national officers upon their arrival, while George Rogers, T. J. O Erien, F. I. Elllck and George J. Duncan will see to the pleasure of the men from Lincoln and Bioux City. The Omaha Rotary club now numbers about two dozen of the most representa tive men In the city, and by the time the national officers arrive this number will be more than doubled by acceptance ot the application forthcoming at the pres ent time. The membership committee Is George Rogers. A. T. Love and Gould Diet. MEMBER OF THE LINCOLN QUARTET DIES IN OMAHA William A. Grant, aged 7 years an old resident of Omaha, died Tuesday evening at the home ot his daughter, Mrs. Thomae A. Golden, 3018 Pratt street, after a brief illness. Mr. Grant was a native of Macomb, 111. He was a staunch republican, being a member of the old Lincoln-Logan party, and served twenty year as city clerk of Monmouth and also two terms In the state legislature, with Oglesby, Cullom, McClaughery, and Dave Rankin, the farm king. Mr. Grant waa a member of the famous Lincoln quartet which created such a furor during the Lincoln campaign. He removed to Aberdeen, 8. D., where he engaged In the drug business. It waa her that Mr. Grant died. Later Mr. Grant cam to Omaha where he em barked In the real estate business. . For many years Mr. Grant wa pres ident of the sixth ward republican club. He was a Mason, being a member of Nebraska Lodge No. I. Mr. Grant 1 survived by his daughter, Mr. Golden; and Charles L. Grant of this city; Mr. Kate Davis of Seattle and John 8. Grant of Lincoln.
