OMAHA. Oct. 4. 111.
The wheat situation has not developed
the bulls hoped It would. The first
October is passed without any. de-
rease In primary storks, and the world s
slble Is large enough to warrant oenei
that there Is no Immediate danger of
serious dearth In supplies.
curope is content to await Develop
ments on the Argentine crop, and until
something happens. Importers will go
ow and only contract fur Immediate re
tirements. The domestic market cannot
for any extended period remain stagnant
in Its present rut, as some decided move
ment Invariably follows Just such dull
ness as we have now. There has been
nough bull news to sive an advance, and
he fact that such news has fallen flat
nggests the belief that wheat la high
enough.
I here la no doubt that the flooding oi
wisnds by the recent rains has dune
great damage to the corn and fodder
rops, and the tendency will be to delay
ny early marketing of tne new crop,
here may be some further reaction from
the recent advance but this will not long
remove the Influence of the bullish sllu-
tlon In both cash and futures.
Wheat ruled very dull, prices ranging
narrow. War news and weather In the
northwest were bullish factors but had no
effect
Continued damage news on the recent
wet weather and the light country movem
ent gave corn a firmer tone. Cash
corn was Vie to Ho hlirher.
Primary wheat recelnta were 1.397.000
bushels, and shipments were 647,000 hush-
is. against receipts last year or 9X3.W0

ishels. and shipments were 4til.oi'o bush-
s. against receipts lost year of 6M.O00
buKhels, and shipments of 66A.O00 bushels.
Clearances were 107.000 bushels of corn.
none of oats and wheat and flour equal

CHICAGO. Oct. 4 With receipts In the

urn finished a shade to Wu'c up, oats
sixteenth lower to a like amount higher
and provisions running from unchanged

It seemed Impossible to hoist the price
wheat above the line and above yes
terday's close. (Quotations were only
lifted when reports became current that
threshers In North Dakota and Canada
had been brought to a standstill by un-
xpected continuation of rain. War news
ulped cause a temporary bullish feeling,
but traders' attention returned to the
increasing stocks In the northwest and
to the predictions of better weather In
that section, barring showers for Mani
toba. The tone at the end. however, was
steady. December fluctuated from 97sc
to 'JTo with last sales WfSc net lower
at 97 '-tc
Damage by floods and rain rallied the
corn market. December ranged from
64 'no to 64o, closing firm Vf c up at
4Sc. Cash grades were in better de
mand from the east. No. 2 yellow was
tinted at "OftTOHc.
Hedging sales formed a feature In the
oats pit. I'pper and lower limits toucher
by December were 47c and 47Sti4"Sc,
with the close a shade net lower at 47.c.
Provisions showed strength. At the
wlndup all products were as high as last
ight. f lour had increased, but not in
anv case to exceed 7V-e.
Quotations of leading products were:

ous two days, gives a total mai onto

able. The tbree days' aggregate, iji.whi
head, not only exceeds the total fur the
same days of last week, but It Is als
considerably larger than the runs of tho
same duys last year. The new supply
consisted largely of lambs, the same aa
recently, and feeder classes were me gen
eral rule. . , ,
k-iini,inir fit o kill cleared In splen
did shape yesterday and the opening to
day found nothing on sale in me way l
fat stock that was not stllctly fresh.
Good fat lambs met with an active in
quiry from all quarters and firm prices
were usually obtained without more dif
ficulty. Few straight strings were avail
able, however, and packers' purchase
were generally drawn from sorts. 1 nera
was a little speculative competition iur
offerings, a condition that asserted it
self for the first time yesterday, and
now and then a shipment of lambs,
mostly fat, finds an outlet at packers'
prices that involves rebllllng to various
eastern points. As much as $5.4o(r5.tiO
was paid yesterday by a speculator. The
best lambs that sold early today on
local packing account landed at $5.66 and
anything moving below $5.35 la not very
attractive.
Fat sheep ruled Just about steady
and the trade as a whole presented 110
new features. Good ewes ranged around
$3.30a3.36 and wethers are still quotable
up to $4.00, choice heavies moving at $3 8.. 1
Despite the fact that leeoer supply
lately has been surprisingly large, the
country demand shows little or no abate
ment and prices are being wen sustaineu.
All but 4,000 head of yesterday's big
supply cleared, leaving a relatively open
field for today a offerings. , country
orders seemed plentiful and a firm,
active market early augured well lor
complete clearance. Good feeder lamns
are selling at and slightly under So.uO.
while feeder ewes are moving from $3.00
downward. According to packers' tab,
the two davs nurchase on country.
account amounts to about 75,000 head.
