It was a henvv trade during the week, however, aa fnllv 14".uf") head of stock arrived and changed hands, this total bo ing the largest tl any eek thua far this unison. Iambs made tip the big hulk of offering, and feeder animals outnumbered fat grade, by almost three to one. The various outlets proved ample, as present clearance Indicates, but the tone to demand at timea was alow and unsatisfactory. Pally clearances always Involved bulk but were usually qualified by a few loada of holdovers. Lambs, running nrv freely than any other class of stock, yielded to bear pres sure read"" and suffered liberal declines, especially where packing orders did not meet the competition of the country de mand. Good, fat lambs, now selling at $5.1orn5.40. show a slump of XifiWH-, while feeder lambs drew a lesser cut of In1r2r Thrifty feeder lambs are selling from Ji 00 475.05 downward. Sheep, both feeder and fat, have been well sustained at all time, and are closing steady to perhaps a little stronger In spots. The trade In thin and Inbetween classes of .took has been the largest and most Interesting, of course, as western ranges are furnishing feeder stuff rather than finished strings. According to packers' tab, fully li0,00o head of animals were purchased by country buyers and spec ulators during the week, this estimate amounting to about 70 per cent of the rntlre receipts. This output Is not onlv the largest of the canon but It mran. a. well, that the actual corn-belt di-mund Is rapidly expanding. Present accumula tion In speculator.' hands is by 110 means excessive.
