Sioux. City's college twlrler. Clarke, and
IliiMrsiKin, one of Pa's three available
pitchers. staired a duel at Rourke park
yesterday afternoon. In which the Rourke
twtrler lout out In the first Inning;, when
two hits, an error, a pass and a sacrifice
hit scored three runs, the only tallies of
the day. At the end of the battle the
Champs, were sailing aloft with the bin
end of a 3 to 0 score.
Clarke deserves credit for his remark
able work on the mound and for the way
ha tightened un when In tlRht pinches. His
crossfire and speed kept the home boys
m getting dangerous, while the men be
hind him took charge of the few flies that
were sent out. Robinson, outside of the
first Inning, was there, and over. Time
and again he would pitch himself out of
holes which looked dangerous. Eleven of
the Champs, fell before his mysteries. The
Sioux damage was done in the first In
ning, after which 'Robbie'1 had things all
his own way.
It was a classy exhibition of base bull
and the fans present were there will the
appreciation In the form of noise. In only
two Instances did the Rourkes have a
chance to score, and it was here that the
fans showed that they were made of the
right stuff. Hits at opportune times would
have won the game for Pa's athletes, but
here Clarke exhibited a class of pitchinij
which could not be beaten.
The, Champs opened up the game strong
and took It at the Jump. Breen, the first
man up, clouted the leather to right for
two bases. Stem got to first when
Kneavea bubbled his easy grounder. Dreen
took third on the error. Andreas whiffed
three god ones. Wagner drew free transpor
tation. Hartman settled things by driving
out a pretty, single to right, scoring Breen
and stem, Wagner getting aa far aa third.
A sacrifice fly by Neighbors scored Wag
ner, and Rellly ended the Inning by strik
ing out.
The Rourkes looked like the real stuff
when Moore drew a pass. Nlehoff struck
out. Thomason followed In the same man
ner, and things looked black. Kane drew
a walk, hut Moore was forced out at third
on Williams' grounder to short. In the
s-cond the Champs, got two more hits, one
of which waa a double by Breen. Clarke,
who got on base on an Infield hit. waa
caught stealing home, which shattered the
Champs.' chances of scoring.
In the fourth Inning the Rourkes got
two men on bases, Robinson as far as
third and Moore to second, but that waa
a far as they got. Two Infield grounders,
by Nlehoff and Thomason, settled scoring
chances, nl the eighth two mora men
managed to get on bases, but Thomason
polled chances of scoring by trying to
stretch a single Into a double and getting
nailed at the second sack. Score:

loop gonfalon by beating Grand Island.
0 to 4. In eleven innings. Stevens and
Clausman were opposing each other and
for nine innings it was a battle royal. Both
pitched gilt edged ball and though many
errors were made behind them, sensational
double plays always redeemed. Sueprtor
scored first, was tied, scored again and
then the Islanders made three In the
eighth. The first man up in the ninth for
Superior grounded out. Allen walked and
Dorsch bounced one over the right fence
for a home run tioing the score. In the
eleventh Dorsch led off with a hit after
which Coyle hit, both advanced on a passed
ball, and Dorsch came across on Mc
Dowell's long fly to left field. Dorsch's
batting and a double play by Michael and
Bockewltz were features. Tomorrow's
game finishes the atato league schedule.

CHICAGO, Sept. 5. George Hacken

the knee, which had been given a severe
wrenching by the Iowan, but there was
no indication of a serious Injury. The Rus

Gotch also had a good night's sleep,
being; in bed shortly after 10 o'clock and
not again being visible to callers until well
