middle of August they sent a Una of In
quiries to grain dealers and elevator men
In the two states. Instructing the parties to
whom inquiries were sent to plaos their
own estimates en the yield of corn and
oats la their Immediate vicinity.
Among the first of the reports to be re
ceived have been by the Carers Elevator
company. A summary shows that aa aver
age an eighty reports ooveiing the entire
corn belt of Nebraska (Ives the estimate of
the present growing crop of corn t be 71
per oent of the erop of 1910, and the yield
of oats for 111 to be tt per cent of that
Of 1910.
On Nebraska RaafM.
In parts of Polk and York eountles and
at a few stations in the southern part of
the state, also in a small territory on
the Burlington west of Loup City and Ra
venna thess reports show the present corn
crop to be equal to or better than 1910.
Except as heretofore noted the estimates
of ths growing corn erop in all Nebraska
range from M to It per oent of the crop of
1910. The lower estimate Include north
eastern Nira, which la ths beat corn
territory la the state, therefore, the aver
age of 7t per cent is thought to be high.
To analyss these reports Instead of taking
an avsrage Indicates that ths present crop
Is about 05 to TO per oent of the crop of 1810.
Ths averags of twenty reports from Iowa
which cover only the western part of the
stats from Council Bluffs north show that
ths yield of ths growing crop of corn will
be U per cent of the orop of 1910 and that
the yield sf oats In 1911 Is ? per cent of
the atop of 1910.

0. W. Rees Cannot Be Tried in Omaha,
Accident Having; Occurred
in Iowa.
Ths case against O. W. Rees, who, by
careless driving, crashed into a buggy on
ths Douglas street bridge Sunday night,
will be dismissed In police court tomorrow,
it having been learned by Prosecutor Dick
inson that ths accident occurred outside
of ths court's Jurisdiction.
Raes waa driving an automobile across
ths bridgs at a terrlflo rate of speed and
crashed Into the buggy occupied by Isom
Wright and Miss Edna Cooper. The buggy
was completely demolished and the horse
was so badly hurt that It had to be shot.
Both Miss Cooper snd Mr. WrlKht sus
tained Injuries.
Upon Investigation ths prosecutor finds
that ths west bank of ths Missouri is the
Iowa boundary. Ths accident occurred
within 100 feet of ths east approach of the
bridge, this point being within the state
of Iowa.
Since Wright Is held responsible by the
Jones llvsry stable. It Is likely that he will
commence action against Rees In Council

Field Exercises.
Companies E. F. a. akd H of ths Fourth
Infantry are Just now engaged in a four
days' practice march and series of field
eserclses. Ths four companies left Fort
Creole at 6:89 o'clock Wednesday morning
and marched to Portal, in Barpy county,
where they are at present encamped.
So far tha companies have acted. Inde
pendently, but Saturday moraine all the
company commanders are to report to
