CATTLB There were no cattle here of
any consequence, but the total for tho
week foots up 24,307 head, a gain of about
2.200 head as compared with last week and
a falling off of about 5,600 head aa com
pared with a year ago. The market as a
wfiole has been in very satisfactory condi
tion from start to finish.
Reef Hteers have been In moderate sup
ply on most days of the week, and the ten
dency of values has been upward until at
the close of the week, when the market Is
safely 25f35c higher on the desirable kinds
than one week ago. Beef steers sold during
the week as high as $7.80, the best pric!
paid on this market since September of
last vear. Range cattle have also touched
the highest point of the year to date.
Stockers and feeders have been in very
much better demand this week than usual
of late the country neing a iree ouver
of all desirable kinds. As the supply ha
not been overly large prices' have shown
considerable strength, being quoted for the
week 15ri2.".c higher.
The feeling on the market at the close of
the week la decidedly better. The sentl- i
mcnt among cattle men has undergone a
very decided change within recent weeks,
due to moderate receipts and to the pros
pect that the run for the year is not going
to be overly large. At the same lime the
splendid consuming demand has caused a
sharp advance In prices for the product at
large eastern centers of population, all of
which Is most encouraging to the producer.

SHEEP No fresh sheep or lambs were
received today and in the absence of stale
stock of any kind no market developed,
prices remaining nominal.
Normal receipts during the week cleared
with little difficulty on a trade closing
steady in handy sheep, a dime o perhaps
a quarter higher In heavy sheep and gen
erally firm in lambs. Feeder lambs show
uneven advances of 15(7j40c.
Improvement In heavy .sheep, while mod-.i-nte
hsH been attended be a bealthv de-
i mand from all packing quarters and the
discrimination aiainst weight seems to be
gradually vanishing. Wethers weighing 121 1
pounds that were taken out to be "scenery- 1
fed'' last week returned yisterday and sold
at $3.55, 30c more than they cost the specu- j
lator who bought tliem last Friday. Handy
wethers are still selllnR as high as $3.75 1
and classy ewes touched $3.65 Thursday. I
Most of the good kinds of ewes available;
lately landed at a spread of $3.25'i3.70. :
Handy yearlings have been selling around I
$4.fiOfc4.75, Indicating an extreme quotation !
of $5.
Some strength was shown in fat lamb
trade Monday when a $7.15 top was made. I
but prices settled back Into former notches
the following nay, ruling steany through
out the remainder of the week. Demand
at all times has been active and ample,
present limit being $7.
According to packers' figures on feder
purchases something like 40 per cent of the
total receipts found a country and specu
lative outlet. Free buving at advances
was the main feature of the trade. Feeder
lambs are now selling from f5.90 downward,
while good feeder ewes are drawing bids
of $3. now 3.30. Feeder yearling brought as
much as $4.80 Thursday and unfinished
wetlrs were wanted at $3.2583.40.
