company refused to sell him any more
harvesters. This waa In 1M6 and Mr. Green,
his fighting blood stirred, established "The
Nebraska Liberal," with which ha essayed
to scalp the trust.
Tha undertaking was not so foolhardy aa
eome may have thought. Within a few
months tha editor of tha "Liberal" was
recognized aa leader and waa elected
president of tha Demoeratlo Stata Preea
association. He waa nominated later as
. democratic candidate for lieutenant ror
emor. all because he waa carrying on a
single-handed fight against the Interna
tional Harvester company, which ha de
etarea to ba a trust.

what I please." Bald Mr. Green, who was

sumer will be satisfied whenever the trusts
hesitate to break the law and nothing else
will do any good.

will be brought up again In the winter.
The attorney general may start proceed
ings earlier, however, and from what I
could learn something la aure to be done
either by congress or by the department.
"Attorneys for the harvester company
recently protested against the Foster reso
lution, asserting that they ought to wait
for an investigation, which waa begun
years ago by the Department of Commerce
.and Labor. It is just the fact that three
or four yeara have already been wasted
la that Investigation that la making the
reat of the Interested officials wonder about
It- Congress will go straight at It and
may get results."
Mr, Green is a mild mannered man and
does not look like a belligerent fighter of
the "Interests," although he admits a
, streak of anarchism In hla blood, which he
'Inherited from hla father, who left Penn-

because of Intolerable conditions In the
steel mills. La Follette has the upper hand
now, ha thinks, and that Insures progress,
"That little Frenchman," said. Mr. Green,
"is revengeful and they . fried him In hi

will suffer for it."
