SH LLP The market for tat sheep and
lambs oened dull, contrasting sharply
with activity ln feeders that could almost
le described as clamorous. All of the
larger packer buyers were slow to enter.
Hi trade resulting ln an early session
featured by Inflection Instesd of actual
busineaa. a tew strings of killing stock
ruled steady st the start, but the demand
was backward and bearish w'rh ths trend
to prices easier. Some lltti business was
dune late ln the morning at figures around
'a dime lower, but feeder trade was
an Independent affair and ruled higher
throughout.
About thirty-five loads of stock made up
the run, an estimate that proved half tat
and half feeder. Sheep outnumbered lambs
and practically everything on saie Arrived
under billing from rsnge states. Good
wethers with weight sold round ti.40 while
ewer changed hand at t3.3f and on down
the lirt. Choice yearlings are quotable up
to f4 7,ri, but the ordinary run of stuff ha
been moving around M 2i.fc-4.40.
Lambs made a f7.00 top and tn view of
the fact that local values are crowding
those in force at eastern markets, a bet
ter limit than the even money seems im
probable. Good grass lambs are tn very
fair request at or near pi.&O, but the com
mon kinds, including inferior lights, ars
landing below t.2i. High drwaslng quality
is still given plenty of emphasis In packing
circles so that the range ln prices is de
cidedly broad.
Feeder trade followed a lofty course,
showing uneven advances of 10uj2ic Thrifty
1 feeder sheep sold almost a high a good
lulling abet? in many instances, hut th
two branches of ths lamb market hav
not yet reached such a friendly basia Spec
ulators bought freely from the start and
country orders wore frequent. Feeder ewe
brought as much aa fn 20 and feeder year
lings touched MOO. Classy feeder lambs
are selling from Mi. 00 downward. Packers'
tab on feeders restertlay showed an ag
gregate purchase of i.800 head. About fo
per cent of receipts.
