Through the efforts of es-Govemor FVank
W. Brown and Charles W. Bryan this du
ties been designated as the location of the
new state bird hatchery, appropriation for
which was made at the late session of th
stat legislature. The location was made
bv Cam. Warden Mi Her and comes as a
result of Beaotiations carried on ant the
city park board
The birds in the Lincoln hatcheries will
be the nucleus of s collection which will be
gradually distributed oxer the state, at the
direction tf the game warden, for game
purposes in a manner similar as that
pursued by the state fish warden at pres
ent. Only II K of the eT..OO appropriation
has been spent on the first consignment.
The rest of tbe amount Is to be used to
purchase birds and eggs during the next
5 ear and a half.
The Mrds already ordered include the fol
lowing: Fifty pairs of Hungsrian par
tndees. I rir of English pheasants, six
iwiri cf golden pheasant, si pairs of
silver pheasants, one pair of ldy Amberst
pheasants. There are also in the first con
signment fifteen pair of duck and geeise
Including mallards, can vaa-backs, pin-tails,
teal, English vail ducks snd wild mallards,
the last two varieties for decoy purposes.

Miss Mary Kopecky tii severely injured in
a runaaay he'e yesterday afternoon. She
sustained a fractured ankle and a number
of ugly cuts and bruises about the body.
Three other occupants of the buggy' bo
were with her escaped Injury.
Mrs. Ernil Fruyli, wife of J. W. Brugh,
living eighteen miles southeast of Beatrice
died Sunday evening, aged year. Khe
leaves a number of children, all groan.
The funeral was held today from the
South Dunkard church. Interment wa In
the church cemetery.
William Rtnrs wanted at Linn. Kan.,
for the alleged Illegal sale of liquor, wa
taken back to that place yesterday by the
sheriff of Washington" county. He was ar
rested last week at Wj more and lodged to

cer from Kansas with requisition papers.
Two launches, one belonging to J. W.
Glenn, and the other to H. M. Garrett,
collided on the Blue river Sunday night

returned from Onaha. wlwe he met with
tbe state military board. The board se
lected a portion of H. T. Clarke land as
a camp ground for the annual encampment
of tbe Nebraska national guard In Septem
ber. The grounds are on the line of the
Burlinglon railroad, one mile soutbweel
of Bellevue, and one mile east of Fort
Crook. It also reiterated Its determination
to assist in preventing person from unlaw,
fully using- the emblem the Red Cross
aoceity or any emblem resembling it. Thi
wij make it hard for physicians, under
taker or private ambulance companies
to use a red cross or a white cross In a
red bscka-round on their vehicles. Such
emblems have been used
extensively in
