DAVIS SUSTAINS A BROKEN LEO fielder for Ikr OriiUana' While lld Inf im the Third Daw, Mffli with a Bad Accident and 1 Carried Off Field. Jackson, a tall ungainly looking Indl- ttdual. known ai the atar twlricr of the Pueblo Orphan, dished out a beautiful assortment of goose egg to the Rourk? yesterday afternoon In the first battle of the serle. winning the gam for the Isbell crowd by a 5 to 0 score. There was nothing doing from the be ginning to and for the home boys Every one who stepped to the plate looked the snme to Jackson. He bewildered the ''olts with his mysteries and sent eight of them to the bench by the strike out route Even tlie best Rourke hitters, such as Kane. Thomason and Williams, were unable to do better than get one hit. Pop-ups and may grounders were about the best that could bo sent out. He sure had the spltter breaking for fair and It continued to break until the end of tha game. Hut mv thing spoiled the game for the fans, this being In th aeventh Inning when "Lofty" Davis, the Pueblo right fielder. boke hla left leg Just above the ankle In a slide to third bag. I.esr Hnahlea Ip nml llreaka. Davis came to bat with two men on bases In the aeventh. He hammered the first ball hit to the left field fence. Demott. who was on the firing line for the Rourkea. pitched stellar ball for the first six Innings, not giving the Orphans a run, but In the seventh he was found for two hits, which netted the first two runs of the game. In all eight hits were garnered off Demotes delivery. He fanned one man and did not pass a man during tha entire time. The moat of the hits made off Demott were not dangerous, hut five of these were doubles. Not a base was stolen by either team during .the entire gams. It being the first time such an Incident has occurred on the home grounds thla season. ' Taking the game aa a whole. It was the beat one which has been played In the last Ova games played at home. Pueblo put up a classy article of ball, and won the game on superior playing. McKee and "Buck" Weaver were there to do the umpiring and they got away with a whole akin and In the good graces of tha fana. McKee worked at balls and trlkea and made a good Job of It. Ha got ha playera to work better than any urn- plr has done this year. The game took up but one hour and forty minutes of time. "Buck" was watching the bases and also got away good. Score: OMAHA. AH.
