HIE BEE: OMAHA, THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 1911. Archer's Homer Wins for Cubs in Tenth Inning; Rourkes Lose to Sioux City SIOUX SLUG THE HARDEST Win a Heavy Hitting; Conteit from the Rourke Family Wednesday. HARD FOUGHT ALL THE WAY Kaoh Team I nrm Tlirfc PHrhfri to tern 4e Changing Till"-, bat the Champa Rail? I. ant and Rrat. Bioux City took the big end of a slugging match yesterday afternoon from the. Rourkes by a I to A score. Three pltrhere were used by each team to curb the fear ful onslaught of tha opposing batters, but the Champa got away with fifteen hits while the home boya garnered thirteen. The Champa took a lead of two runa on the J .imp and for four Inntnga Klddo VVI1 aon held tha Rourkea powerless before his blinding benders, and during that time atrurk out ten of tha Omana batters. But in the sixth Inning the Colts got to htm and slamim-d out three hits, two of which with duubk-s, and tied up tha score. In the elxtn the Iowa aggregation again took a one run lead, which the Rourkea tied up In the acvtnth. Again In tha eighth tha Champa made two more tallies and the Omaha fans lout heart. But for the third time of the Kama the Rourkes deadlocked the score and went one better, and when the Sioux tribe came to bat in the ninth the funs went wild. Balje Towne came to tho rescue of his struggling battleis and batted for Rellly. An awful groan went up from the fana as he hammered the ball to the right field fence for a clean two bags. Dawson sacri ficed him another bag. It was then Klepf ner's turn to bat, but Towne sent Mully Miller to the plate. Robinson, who was doing tho hurling for tha Rourkes, got fussed and walked Mully. The silence of the stands was oppressing and the fans dared not breathe as Red Andreas walked to the plate with a club that looked like a houMo. Robinson settled down and struck Andreas out. KlKht to the Finish. With two out and two men on bases. Stem came to the bat and whiffed at two and then sent a nice one to Moore, who failed to make a perfect stop, and Rellly scored. This feat took the atlng out of Robinson, wh made a wild heave, letting Miller score. Breen was hit by a pitched ball when he came to bat, and then to cap the climax Lynch let one through him and Stem ambled across tha plate with the Champs' last score. Omaha made a heart-rending attempt to get even again in the ninth with two runs to the bad. Kane was walked for the third time of the day and things looked brighter. Echoonover sacrificed him a bag. A wild pitch by Saga put Kane on third. Pick gent a popup to Andreas. Kneaves nade an Infield bit, scoring Kane. Lynch came to bat with fire In his eye, but after getting two balls and two strikes swung at a good one and missed. It was one of tha prettiest uphill games ver witnessed. The Rourkes, although at nearly all stages of tha game behind, fought with all the fury of demons and did not give up until tha last man hau truck out. Demott was wild during the first inning, which gave tha Champs a chance to get the jump on tha home team. Score: OMAHA. AB. R. H. O. A. E. Moore. 2b 4 1114 1 Mehoff, Sb I I I 1 I 0 J hoiuason, cf . MAGEE STAYS OUT OF GAME National League Directors sustain Sentence of Player Wbo At tacked t'mplre. CHICAGO, Aug. 2. By a vote of S to 1 the board of director of the National Base - Ball league today upheld President Lynch In his action of fining and sus pending Sherwood Magee, outfielder of the Philadelphia club, for assaulting Umpire Flnneran during a recent game with the Bt. Loula team in Philadelphia. President Lynch fined Magee 3200 and suspended him for the season. The directors In a lengthy opinion in which the constitution of the league on the power of tho president to enforce discipline by Imposing fines and suspending players Is quoted, sustain President Lynch, fining Magee and barring him from the game for the season. Later President Murphy of tho Chicago club filed a dissenting opinion. The decision Is based on sections 23 and 28 of the National league constitution, which give the president absolute power on proper proof to suspend a player for a definite period and to Impose a fine not exceeding $300. Part of section 28 provides: "Such fine can only be remitted by the board of directors after a hearing on ap peal." Mr. Murphy dissented because In his opinion tha Intent of section 28 of tha con stitution is to give the board of directors authority not only to review any and all acta of tha president, but to rescind penal ties Inflicted In all cases, with a rataflca tlon by tha league. CINCINNATI, Aug. 1 "It's up to tha league directors. They run bas ball, so what they say goes, but you are darned right I'm sorry." Sherwood Magee, who It here with his team, thus received the news from Chicago this afternoon. "As to my sticking with the team It is up to President Fogel, who will get here probably tomorrow."
