CUT' Pitcher, Scoring Tfcr. Hits la Kaar Tlmri at Hat. Blondy Hall, after pitching ont of the Dt timet of the season, broke the second of the series of games with Sioux City with a three-base hit In the seventh Inning which eventually won for the Rourkes by a I to 1 score. Hall allowed but three bits during the entire fracas, parsed but three men, and dropped five by his mystic curves. After both teams had battled for five Innings without a run, Sioux City got busy hi the sixth and put Its label on the game by bawtagr-ent a double which was scored on an error by Nlehoff. The Rourkes cams to bath In the seventh Inning, and. after two had gone out, HJi saved the day with a perfect three-bagger to the left field fence. Moore followed with a neat single to right and Hail ambled across the1 place, deadlocking the score. Sioux City came In for a hit In the eighth with Intentions of forcing another ruttr but Hall settled dovfn and Breen, who had made the hit. died on first. Thomason led off for the Rourkes In the eighth with a pretty Infield hit. A stolen base and a hit placed him on third and from there he scored when Stem failed to catch the ball on a throw following Wil liams' Infield hit. In the ninth Inning Hall workod hard and the men who faced him went out In one, two, three order. Clark, the husky twlrler acquired from Ames college by Tom Fatrweather, was sent to the mound for the Champs. For the first six Innings he had the home boys fanning the wind and falling before him, or dying on little Infield pops. Thom ason, however, proved to tie a Tartar to the college boy and secured three hits In four times to bat In the first Inning he kept Bloux City from scoring after two mea had gotten on bases by catching the ' ball about two Inches from the ground after a wild chase. In the second Inning Stem reached first on an error by Kneaves. but the plucky Omaha shortstop made- up for It on the next play, when he threw Stem out at second after making a circus stop. Nlehoff made the only other error In the sixth In ning, and it cost the Rourkes a run run. Fltxgerald had reached Second on a pretty double, when Breen sent a bunt down the third-base line. Hall fielded the ball to Nlehoff, who failed to catch it. and It rolled out to left field, while Fltxgerald scored. Aside from that play Nlehoff put up a stiff game. In the eighth Inning Williams was laid out for about five min utes when he bumped Into Stem at first base after beating out a bunt. Scanlon was called out to run for Williams, but In order to let Williams play In the next Inning he had to do his own base running, although he could hardly walk. Sioux City got the first run of the game In the sixth Inning. Fltxgerald doubled to left, went to third on Breen's grounder along the third-base line and scored on NtehofTs error. Omaha failed to score In Its half of the sixth, but came back in the seventh and tied up. After two had died. Hall slammed the ball to the center field fence for three bases. Moore followed with a single to right and Hall scored. Again In the eighth the Rourkes scored, winning the game. Thomason reached first on an Infield hit. stole second, went to third on Williams' Infield hit and scored on Stem's error. Score: OMAHA. AB. R. H. O. A. E. DES MOINES, la., Aug. l.-If the pres ent plans instituted today by the local commercial organisations mature, Des Molncs may be represented by a base ball club In the Three-1 league before the close ef the present season. Preliminary steps have been taken to ward divorcing Des Moines from the Western league and an appeal will be forwarded within the 'next forty-eight hours to Garry Herrman. chairman of the national commission, requesting that the local field be declared unoccupied territory- Tbe ouster proceedings are based on the abandonment of Des Moines by John F. Hlgglns as headquarters for his club. Negotiations are already under way for the transfer of a Three-1 league franchise to Dea Moines, which probably will be con trolled by local capital, according to com mercial men. The plan not only contem plates a Three-I league franchise at the present time, but looks to the organisation of a new circuit In the spring. Under an order of the national commission, the Three-I league will disband next fall which will lay the way open for the per fection of an Iowa-llllnols circuit. Chicago, Aug. 1. President earney of the Three-Eye league tonight denied that negotiations were pending for a franchise to be transferred to Des Moines. "There Is no chance." said T earney. LAKE FOREST. 111., Aug. l.-Maurice McLoughlin of San Francisco won the western tennis championship In men's sin gles yesterday at the Onwentsla club by defeating Thomas C. Bundy of Los Angeles, holder of the title. In three out of four sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-8. The lack of tournament practice on the part of the Los Angeles player was pain fully apparent, for although the match was not a hard one he tired quickly after the first set and, after half of the second was over, was hopelessly out of the run ning. He made a desperate effort to get the advantage in the third set of the af ternoon but It was merely a spurt and the superior stamina of the younger man told. Neither man played good tennis after the first set. Bundy seemed unable to copt with McLoughlin and the latter, after seeing that he had his opponent besten, played safe. The opening set showed some remarkably clever placing by both men but there were none of the long sessions of volleying. McLoughlln's speed was apparent In the second set when he repeatedly passed Bundy at the net In the first set Bundy seemed the super ior and played the headier game. Mc Loughlin played a harder game but Bundy took quick advantage of his frequent mis takes. McLoughlin was wild In this set and seldom managed to get his drives in-' side the court. His service also was not up to standard and Bundy's back-hand strokes netted him point after point.
