Have Bumper Crops

' D. Clem Deaver, colonisation agent of the
Burlington, returned from a trip through
the Big Horn Basin and northern Wyo
ming Wednesday and gave the most glow
ing account of the crops In that country.
Oats, hay, wheat, fodder com, millet, pota
toes and beets are all doing well ha de
clared. "Irrigated cropa all through . the Big
Horn Basin are in fine condition, and will,
I believe, make the blggeat harvest both
In total quantity and In bushels per acre
that the Basin has aver known. The potato
rielda, ten, twenty, forty, eighty and sev
eral fields of 160 acres, will mean small
fortunes to their owners, for the potatoes
are In the finest shape. All the grains are
doing well, the torn, which Is grown chiefly
for fodder up there. Is large.
"In the nerthern Wyoming country,
where many settlers have taken dry farms,
there will be losses In the grain crops they
had expected. However, the losses will not
down the farmers there, for we have ad
vised all that bought land to raise stock,
poultry and such things, so that they will
have plenty of money to purchase seed for
the coming year.
"In the Dakotaa many farmers are plow
ing for winter wheat plantings later. The
spring grain did fairly well, but many lost
big fields of grain."

Their Tax.
Internal revenue receipts for the month
just passed exhibited a decrease of I23.O00
over the corresponding month last year.
This, however, is attributed to the fact
: that the corporation tax, which Is due on
June SO, with the exception of one corpora
tion, was paid up at that time this year,
'While last year several corporations did
not pay their taxes until the end of the
ten days of grace which expired on July 10.
' The Internal revenue receipts for the
amount Just passed were 119,823.58, as
against 3244,297.26 for the same month last
year. The . revenue for spirits and liquor
and also for tobacco and cigars are about
the same as last year, so, despite the fact
that" the figures are less for last month
than a year ago, the receipts average
about the same, as the receipts' for June
of this year were far In advance of those
of .June, 1910. . .

The Independent elevator has been leased
from the Chicago Oreat Western by the
Nye-Schnelder-Fowler Grain company, and
the leasees expect to take over the plant
on August 16. The elevator, which has a
capacity of 1,300,000 bushels, has been used
of late for storage purposes, but It will
be used hereafter to handle grain. The
Nve-Hchnetder-Fowler company has been
shipping Its grain through this market

a year ago. Now all the grain will be
handled here, giving employment to a large
. tores of workmen.

Senator John E. Reagan got Into the
class of the peerless leader and the famous
female new thoughtlst by making the above
remark in police court Tuesday morning
after Judge Bryce Crawford had sustained
the first attack on the closed Sunday bar
bershop ordinance.
Judge Crawford discharged Alfred R.
Pardun, proprietor of the Henshaw barber
shop and Albert G. Bockhocker, a barber
in the establishment, who were arrested
and given trial In the test case brought
to try out the new ordinance for Sunday
closing of barber shops.
Judge Crawford held Tuesday morning
that It was not a violation of the statute
to give a man a free shave and hair cut
and that It was not a violation to render
other tonsorlal services for pay.
This decision upholds the contention
made by Stanley Rosewater, attorney for
the master barbers, that barbers could cu
hair and shave their customers without pay
and that they could charge for massages,
shampoos and other Incidentals.
"They have brought their test cases,"
said Senator Reagan. "Now we will bring
one. They brought two separate cases.
It la evident what their plan Is. Having
won both cases they will now give free
hair cuts and shaves and charge enough
for other services to make up the loss. A
shave la IS cents; tonic costs 10 cents; they
will give a man a shave free and then give
him tonic and charge 25 cents for It. .
Barbera to Make Test.
"We will test It ourselves next Sunday
by having one 'barber do this and then
making a complaint against him. We will
charge that It simply la an evasion and
avoidance of the ordinance. A combina
tion of the two services, shaving and tonic

nounced that efforts will be made to have
the ordinance amended so as to remove all
questions as to Its prohibition of all bar
ber work on Sunday. "I did not draw the
ordinance as has been stated," he said.
"The ordinance was made from a com
bination of similar ordinances In effect In
reveral different cities and was prepared
by the barbers' union."
