Operators regarded the state of dullness Into which the market ha fallen as natural at a time when more definite Indication of crop prospect are being awaited as a guide to future movements not only In the stock market, but In business. Among the specialties the fertiliser stocks were most conspicuous. All of the stocks In this group recovered a part of their re cent losses on what appeared to be short covering. L'nlted States Steel moved listlessly. Dur ing one hour of the morning not a share of this stock was traded in, an occurrence which trader said had not been noted be fore sim-s ths admission of this foremost of the industrials on ths exchange. Cana dian Pacific gained a point on the strength ef th favorable crop report of the Cana dian government. The result was a rather sluggish trade, with prices etrsdy to a little easier than yesterday ail around. Compared with a week ago fat cattle values do not show much change. Uood to choice dry lot beeves are selling about as high as any time this season, still there has been a general softening of values on the short fed and grassy grades that are becoming very numerous every day. A fair demand has existed through out th week for desirable killing stock and there seems to be a good healthy under tone to the trade. The market for eows and heifers was very moderately supplied today, and for the most part prices were in about the same notches as on yesterday. In fact, there has been very little change all week. The demand has been broad for good kill ing stock, both oomfed and grassers, and Increased competition from feeder buyers for th different grades has been responsi ble for a strong, active market for any thing of this kind. Vsal calves are 2f(f50c lower than a week ago, but bulls, stags, etc.. are selling Just a trifle better than they were at that time. Owing to th very limited fresh receipts there wss very little trade In atockers and feeders, but that little was at somewhat stronger figures. Sine the recent rain throughout th corn belt th demand has Increased very materially prices are 600c higher than they were at the low time last week. All grades find a readv sale and the tone to the trade Is better than It has been for two or three weeks back. IM SHEET Conttaty to expectation, th therp and lamb market ruled steady te possibly a little stronger la spots. For s Friday, supply wss larxe enough to prompt cheeper rort In buying circles and a weaker trade was also encoursged by brsrieh sdvlcs from other points, , Ths demand had fair volume and healthy tone, however, end anything fat bad llttla In clearing at good, firm prices. About fifteen load wore received In all, and offerings consisted almost entirely of graeeers from Idaho. Sheep outnumbered lambs by three to one, but a six-load ship ment of yearlings was Included in the run that rarrled a rather large feeder end. Idaho wethers of tonpy quality moved at 84 36, snd yearlings from the same state landed at 84. 76. Three loads of Idaho lambs, almost Identical with ths 86.45 article yes terday, were sble to repeat, ruling firm. It would take something extra choice In this line to reach 17 00, a limit that Is rela tively high as compared with those quoted at other leading markets. Matched with values a week ago, current trices give uneven comparison. Losses are largely confined to lamhs, however, as the south has been furnishing a raft of light market breeders. Iocal declines In lamb range from 40c to 75c, but the severity of the break is partly traceable to natural adjustment of a trade that was abnormally high a week ago. Desirable fat sheep are closing about steady. Feeders havs acted poorly and a light supply has occasioned no regrets on ine pan oi sellers. y notations, grass stock: Spring lambs, good to choice, 86 6T.97.OO; spring lambs, fair to good, 86.OO13S.6b; yearlings, feeder, 83.60X4.26: wethers, fair to choloe. 83.;44.eu: we4T, .feeders, 2.8603.4O; ewes, fair to choice, 82.75iS3.76; ewes, feeders and culls, 1. 7&7J2.40. . .
