thla year the former champion cam back

being the first man who ever won th
tat championship twice. '
Galne played a great game of match golf
raiuraay, winning against a man wnera no
had played often and knew to be fully as
good a golfer as himself. However, It must
b admitted that W. J. Foye, 'Billy" la
the golfing world, wa not playing hi usual
good game of golf when he joined In cither
the morning or afternoon sessions of th
state championship . finals.
Foye's putting throughout th match was
poor, and his shots. In approaches were not
what might be expected of such a golfar.
Galnea played a most steady, consistent

he surely would hole.
Foye all through the match- stuck right
to his Job of winning holes, no matter how
uneven the match appeared. He went right
after every one. but th ability to putt
and approach waa not In him yesterday. H
played In what seemed to be good form
but tha strokes fell short or overran tha
greens or hole. .
Frank Galne did not play a record-break

the strong wind and the heat of. th day.
He played with good Judgment all through.

Gaines mad flv.
No. flv was - halved,' although Foy
should have won it easily. He wa on th
green In two, but missed two putts, and
took a fire.
Both men played well on six until they
reached the green, when each took two
putts,,' making the hole in five' each.
Foy dubbed his drive on seven and was
short on. his' approaching pitch. '-, Galnea
won by running down a twenty-foot putt,
having made the green, by a short drlvo
and an approach. .This put Gaines 1 up and
gave him th lead that steadily grew aa th
match progressed.
No. eight wa played, prettily.,' Both wer
on th green In thre and Gaines took
two putts. Foy missed an eighteen-lnch
putt 'and took . ..Gaines, S up.;
No. nine wa halved.: both taking a five,
