Predicted free mar keting of new wheat gave the price of tnat cereal today a final downward swing. The close was VWiHc to Vfi.fec lower than last night Corn finished 4(&c to uvwu, oats on ?i to 74i una prorvisions at t to 12feo decline. Wheat at the start was rather easy on account of cooler weather and scattered showers In the northern part of the spring crop region, but offerings were well ab sorbed, and the market lightly rose. At the higher level the selling was more pro nounced and. the whole 11st. broke badly. Threshing returns from Missouri and Kan sas were favorable, European news beaiTSh and advices from the Canadian northwest very promising. 'Another bulge, .though, followed a report of a serious situation In a part of North Dakota. The crowd seemed In preference to fix attention -on bearish algns regarding generous supplies of new wheat at Kansas City. PC Louis and Chi cago. Accordingly the tone at the close appeared undeniably weak. September fluctuated between 89fec and ' 81 Wc, with last sales o off at K)c. Corn prices suffered because of light rains. September varied from 6SWH4C and closed weak, fetoHo down, at MViif.Kc. Cash grades were easy. No. 2 yellow fin ished at 6oferu67Kc. Realizing sales made oats take the down track. Itcieipis of cattle thia moiii.n,; were very light, only thlrty-t;evtn cats being reported in. Of this number twelve cara were steers and cows conaiirned to packers and not offered for n.le. After making allowance for direct shipments the offerings were very meager. The few beef steers on sale generally changed hands quite readily at about the fame prices as prevailed yesterday. With so few cattle here there was as a matter (f Course nothlnir to make the market vprv Interesting or to develop any new teatures. as nomj-ared with a week ago the market tis ruuy juc niKIifcr. The few scattering loads of cows and heifers pold In Kood season in the morning at firm prices. The market on tho better grades of cows and heifers has been quite strong all the week, the better grades be ing at present time safely 10c higher than last week's close. There were several bunches nf stock cat tle in the yards, but the trade all the week naa been dull, with the demand very slack and it was especially so today, the trade never being as good toward the close of the week. As a result receivers of stock cattle found It very hard unloading, it not Deinn so much a question Of price as a matter of securing a bid. As might be expected under the circum stances, the trade was at no time very active, Bellers all holding on with a firm determination of getting every cent possi ble for their hogs while packers were in no hurry about filling orders. Still pretty much of everything In the yards had changed hands by 11 o'clock in the morn ing. The bulk of all the hogs sold at 86.15, while the bulk yesterday went at I'j.l.Vy) 6.30.
