June 15-iWJth rains north west and more moisture promised, the wheat market today Buffered sharply in breaks In prices. Closing figure were 14c to Vhlc lower than last night. I At wit trading left corn He down to He up, oats unohanged to Ho off ajad hog products at a MN2HC decline. Although It was the weather which counted moat against the value of wheat the market was also beaiinhly affected by hedging sales against actual purchase of new wheat to be delivered In this city. The bulk of the grain contracted to be brought here la from central Illinois, where the harvesters were reported to be at work today as far north a Peoria. An addi tional influence on the bear aide was a government summary showing India and Canada to have the largest cropa on record and th Argentine an acreage un-usi-ally big. : . - Under auch circumstances the bulls had an uphill fight, getting help onlv from statements that threshing- returns In Kan sas were not sustaining eatlmatea and that the crop In central and eastern Europe would be abort. July ranged from bVac to 88HS8o. with the final tone firm, but thai prioe was lc net lower, at 87Hc. In the corn crowd the heaviness of wheat acted as a drag. For July prlcea varied from MHiWto. with the does weak, at 64Hc, a net loss of a ahade. The cash market waa firm. No. 2 yellow finished at 64448 66Ho. Oat underwent a stiff reaction after an advance in which new high prlcea for the year were scored. July fluctuated from t8H'$38Ho and oloeed Ho net lower, at SSHo. Scalping trades formed about all there waa to buslnees In hog produots. At the end of the day pork had dragged down lOo, lard waa off 7H810o to 12Ho and ribs were the aame as last night to a nickel bo low. NEW TORK, June 16-After a burst of activity at higher price early in the day the stock market fell backward slowly to a level which showed small losses gen erally The early display of strength gave way to comparative weakneea. speculative Interest languished and prices remained almost statlonsry until late In the day, when they yielded still further. The rise In the prices at the opening consisted of little more than the mat king up of quotations to the higher level estab lished in London. Most of the market leaders were Included In this tnovemtnt. The Hill stocks were distinctly strong In the early trading, although later thev were among the weakest of the standard share', and the average price of railway Issues, which for the last month has been creep ing upward slowly, mounted to the highest of th year. The fertiliser stork were th flrt to show decided weakness. Increased hearl ness of the Erie- issues waa attributed to llouldatlon of speculative holding which were accumulated during the recent brisk advance of these stocks. Copper share lost a part of their recent galna despite another slight advance In the prlcea of the metal. The first Chinese loan to be. offered In this country was Disced UDon the market and waa understood to have been over- suoscrinea heavily. Unusual Interest at taches to this transaction which. The market began breaking on Monday of thla week and declined sharply on Tuesday under the Influence of a record breaking run. The result of the break In prices waa shown In somewhat reduced receipts yester day and In a large falling off In the arrivals todsy. For the four days the receipts show a slight decrease aa compared with the same days laat week, but at the same time are larger than for the corresponding period a year ago by 18,000 head. The market opened thla mornlnar with buyers picking out a few of the most de sirable light bogs at prices that were steady or very nearly steady with yesterday. Out side ot the early sales of light weights the general mar set was weak to be lower as compared with the beat time yesterday morning. KANSAS CITT. June 16. Ths heartns; fit the state's quo warranto tnilt ag!nt tha allesred lumber trust befors Comm1slonet? R. M. Reynolds wa resumed here today. Harry A. Gorsuch, secretary of ths Southwestern Lumber association, was aesln a witness, making tha third day ha has been on th stand. Attorney General Atkinson asked hint Ifl he had attended a meeting of tha Joint! trades enmmltte of th National Lumhar-t men's assoclslion and th Southern Lum bermen s association in Chicago In 1904, at which certain rule affecting the lumber trade has been promulgstert. Th wltneea said he attended the meeting. "Did you send out a report to tha mtm bers of your association In January, 1908, announcing that certain reciprocal ar rangement agreed on at the meeting of the Joint trades committee In Chicago In 1904 had been shrogated?" I believe 1 did." Rove Over Bulletin. A long argument was precipitated by the attempt of th state to Introduce In evidence a bulletin sent out by Blerd Critchfleld. secretsry, to th member of the Nebrsska Lumber Dealers' association In 1005. This pamplet contained the ro promulgated at the meeting of the Joint tradea committee In Chicago In 1904. "You are familiar with these rules, are you not?" the witness was asked. "No. I csnnot, remember them dearly. They were never put Into effect and were abrogsted soon after they were promul gated," was the reply. At this point W. C. frarrett protested against the Introduction of the bulletin as evidence. He said several witnesses had testified that the rules laid down by the Joint trsdet committee had never been In effect and that the so-called rules were not arbitrary, but merely recommendations to the various lumber associations. Judge J. B. Gantt, for the state, said that the testimony . given at St. Louie showed that the rules were effective for a time In this state and that they violate the anti-trust laws of Missouri. A "The witnesses at this hearing are un willing witnesses," he said, "forced tt, come here by the power of the state. Still the evidence shows that the law has been violated." Blacklist Waa feed. Testimony showing that the associations that were subscribers to the "Bureau of Information" blacklisted those manufac turers who sold to consumers was brought out in the testimony of Mr. Gorsuch. This testimony was offered by the state In the form of letters. These letters MrV Gorsuch Identified as having been wrrttetl by him to Carl F. Drake, secretary of thi Texas Lumbermen's association. In MOrl The correspondence showed that complain! had been made that a cement eompailkw. had sold to consumers In Oklahoma iodT inai on Deing remonstrated with by Mr. Gorsuch hail written him that they in tended to sell whatever they pleased, add ing, "We ai free people, living In a free country." Another letter written by. Gorsuch dis cussed the abolition of fines for members of the association wh.i violated the trade agreement and the substitution of renorta of such vlolntlonr to the trsde. Mr. At kinson laid stress on the language of this letter as showing the existence of a black list.'
