A dry weather scare In South Dakota gave a lift today to the wheat market here. In consequence, final trading showed a net gain, of Mie to c. The outcome In corn waa a shade to "40 decline, oata closing the same aa last night to WfiVjo up and provisions unchanged to 10o advauio. Drouth damage reported from four or flva oountie In central Bouth Dakota not only drove short sellers of wheat to cover, but stimulated muoh other buying aa well. Pont hern Minnesota was alao aaid to be alfected by lack ofNstibsoll moisture. Dts iretohea from sixty points in Bouth Dakora, both east and weat of the Jim liver, were Interpreted a meaning a wheat condition of not more than 75 per cent. Moreover, prediction were current that to save the remainder of the crop there, rain must corns soon. In Brown county the probable average yield was estimated aa low aa even bushels an acre. The resulting upturn In the market rmre came sharply In con trast with earlier weakness, due largely to the general -favorable outlook' In the spring wheat' 'belt aa a whole. Profitl taking mad the close eaav. During the session July ranged from 86"c to 88 Sc. with the last aalea e up at WctfSStte. Prospect of rain in the leading corn state led to heavy sellinir. Htrength of other grain though helped bring about aom recovery. July fluctuated between t4Hio and 64ff."4',c. closing eaay and a shade off at 64fU64,c. Caen grades were weak; No. 2 yellow finished at 6grio, Excited buying of oata was causM through bad crop reports. Outside limits reached by the July option were 87HW e and 38o, with last sales rtio up at 3?So. In view of the fact that packers were buying hog, on a liberal scale, provisions took an upward Blunt. A total of 801 car arrived, making 80.204 head. Th receipt todayy though not nearly so heavy as yesterday, wer very liberal, 818 cars being reported in. This brings the total for the first half of the week up to OO.auO head, a gain of over 7. BOO head, aa coin pared with th large receipt of last week, and 17,000 head ana over larger than a year ago. In spite of the larg receipts at this point and at all othi niarketa a well, it was very vidnt this morning that packer wanted the hog and th market opened fully ateady. A a matr of fact th first fifty or sixty loads -of hogs really aold at steady to a little stronger flgurea. As th more urgent order war til lea, tn trad slowed up, becoming inly steady. On this basis about three-querfar of th Bog changad handa. Then packer apparently earn to th conclusion that thy had been paying mora money than waa necessary and dropped their bids down to as much as lOo lower in many caaea. As a matter of course salesman were unwilling to mak th concession and th trad continued low and dull from that time en. Still th hog kept aelllns and hi tka end about everything was cleaned np, but th laat sals war la many ceaes a much aa lOo lower. Representative sal: K Aa. aa. rr. Me. Ae gk. Ft. 4 4 01 tot ... as 4 8HEEF Receipts of sheep this morning while not so larg a at flrt estimated were very liberal, something like twenty five csrs being In sight early In th morn ing. Of this number eight cars were Or on yearling and sis cars were California lambs. Thus half of th receipts con sisted of western grsss atock. Included In the receipts were several cars of clipped lambs and a sprinkling of fed ewes, wethers, etc. The quality of th fed Mock a a rule was not vry good. In addition to th fresh receipts there wer several car carried over from yesterday Including thre car of Oregon yearlings. Th market a a whole was very unsatis factory from a seller's standpoint, but not mors so than usual at beginning of tb grass season. It always happens that toe first appearance of grass sheep and lamba in any considerable numbers Is a signal for a break In the market on the medium and common kinds of fed stuff. Th In evitable result is a slow, dull and weak market with th tendency lower. That waa th case in th sheep barn this morning nd Is prticticalty the case every year at the beginning of the grass sesaon. Buyers seemed to be In a waiting mood apparently uncertain whether to buy or not, and If they did buy, they wanted to be absolutely ur that they secured the stuff cheap enough. The big run of Art ion a and Texas sheep at southern markets Is also having a weakening effect on th half fat and raeoium amas or Tea sneep and lambs. A bunch of Oregon yearlings sold yester day at $4 88. Thl morning a car of Cali fornia spring Ismbs brought $6.70. th sams price paid for them yea terday, nnd a car of native aprlng lamb sold up to 16.75.
