Every man on the Grand island teent got a hit Thursday, but smitn, the Nonstop Besides making three hits, Hill, tha Hastings pitcher, struck out six men and allowed but six hits. Rouse had the Superiors eating out of his hand and let nine of the bunch down by the strike out route. Claire made the only home rnn of tha day in the league Thursday and brought two other players around before him. York had an easy time getting away with the game with Kearney. Thompson al lowed but five scattered hits for York. VrVisenberger, the Columbus pitcher, re mained in the box the entire nine Innings, although he was found for eighteen hits. The Thompson brothers, the York bat tery, are beginning to put fear Into the hearts of the other players in the league. Columbus and Hastings are having a pretty battle for third place. The two teams are now tied with a percentage of .628. Hastings has one pitcher at least who can also bat. In the game with Columbus Thursday Hill made three hits in four times up. Hatting broke the record for ttie num ber of hits In one game for the league. Kighteen safe ones were clouted out In Thursday's game. Ward Is playing some classy ball for Fremont at the shortstop position. The ex perience he gets this year will help him tutu the Rourke lineup next year. After the first Inning Seward could not get a man around the bases In the game with Grand Island Thursday. Grand Inland won the game with two runs in ths eighth. Rouse won the game fur Fremont from Superior by his superb pitching. He al lowed but four hits and these were well scattered and netted the losers but one Island seems to bs running away from the other teama In the league and Is now about five games to th good. Fre mont Is still In second place and figntlng bard to reach the top. A last effort was made by the Superior bunch to take the game from Fremont Thursday In the ninth Inning, but the most that could be done was to land a man en second, where he eUed. Umpire is the Cause of One Side Losing Losing Side of Doctors Asserts that Beaton Cost Them Game and Dinner. Fix Innings of errorless base ball, com bined with six innings of terrlflo wallop ing of a lop-sided sphere won a dinner for nine Omaha doctors, led by "Doc" Pol lard, against nine other medical profes sionals, led by "Doc" Hellwlg. The gam was at the Field club Thursday afternoon, and, although they paid for the dinner with good grace. Pollard's tribe was sail Insisting Friday morning that Charley Bea ton, the umpire, lost the game for them. The score was 11 to 7.. The game was decidedly one of stellar plays. Dr. Sumney plowed a path between first base and home by sliding every time he got well started for that bse. Dr. Hellwlg, the former Creighton star bat ter, fell down with a hard bump when he came against Hollistei-s curves, and didn't get even a single. The secret of the errorless gam was disclosed by a small boy. It seems that each one of th wily "docs" had It figured out how to keep up a fielding average and not one of them would take a chance, but waited for the bajl to stop rolling before they picked It up. Dr. Schalck Is In dis grace because he deserted the field after being placed out there and came In to play on the third base line. He declared that the outfield was lonesome.
