Collins Charges
Received at Lincoln
By Athletic Board
Chairman H. X. Wolfe of Eligibility
Committee Says Will Call Meet
ing When Desired.
LINCOLN, Neb., May 20. (Special.!
Charges against Sidney Collins, a Corn-
hueiier athletlo star, will be probed before
the annual Missouri valley meet, accord
ing to the statement of Prof. H. K. Wolfe:
chairman of the eligibility committee of
the University Athletic board, Saturday,
II alumni and faculty members Interested
oars to push tha inquiry.
Tha new turn In the athletic situation
at Nebraska oame Friday evening with a
letter from Clyde E. Elliott, a former uni
versity man and member of tha athletic
board, offering on behalf of the Omaha
alumni to pioduce tha proof of Collins'
alleged profeosionaiiam at any meeting- of
the committee to be named.
A similar letter was sent to Chancellor
Samuel Avery, but the chaneellor was out
of the city and did not return until Sat
urday afternoon, so waH not conversant
v. itii the new turn In athletlo affairs. Dr.
Clapp, to whom is laid soma of ths blame
for stirring up tha athletlo rumpus, knew
nothing of the new developments Satur
day Ths offer made by Mr. Elliott slm
piy states that proof will be at the d.s
pohal of the committee at any meeting
tliey should see fit to call. The nature of
the proof is not divulged In the letter.
Dr. Wolfe said he- wrote Mr. Elliott of
fering to call a meeting at his pleasure.
The only reservation made waa that It
should not conflict with school affairs.
The chairman of tha committee said
that ha was always ready to do his duty,
but further than that did not discuss ths
situation.
Chancellor Avery 'returned home Satur
day afternoon and Immediately affirmed
the report that steps would be taken when
the board secured the evidence offered by
the Omaha alumni. Dr. Avery said that
ha had received Mr. Elliott's letter Satur
day afternoon and had written directing1
him to send the proof to the eligibility
committee of tha athletlo board.
