NEW YORK. 16-WalI street s Immedi
ate response to the decision of the supreme
court In , the Standard Oil case wes a
strong and lnslstH.pt demand for securltle
such a- had not ben witnessed since the
dissolution of the Pearson-Farquahar
syndicate Inst July. The decision was in
terpreted as a most important hulsh
factor and stocks were advanced with a
rush, the important Issues gaining from
2 to 4 points The day s total sales was
l.O02.im share.
Among the Important ga'.ne were Union
Pacific and Electric, 4; Rending, SVi; South
ern Pacific, Tnljed Ptates Steel, Weat
Inghouee F.lectrlc and I'teh Copper, i. and
Atchison. Iehigh Valley, New York Central.
Amalgamated Copper, American Smelting
and a number ot other active stocks, 2
or more.
Standard OH fluctuated beck and forth
on the "curb.'' selling at one time fi points
above yesterday's close, but losing more
tnan 16 points on the day. American
tobacco was similarly upset, closing with a
6-point gain after having advanced 30
points.
The demand for stocks wes more than
local. It began laat night In the many
orders sent from this center to London end
was supplemented at the latter place hy
home and continental purchases. On-
eratlons for the F.urnpean account are esti
mated at 75.W0 share.
The domestic dt-mtind. aside from local
buying rame mainly from noston, Phila
delphia Pittsburg and Chicago.
Relief that the uncertainty which has
restricted business for so long was ended
at last was perhaps as mum of a market
factor a the nature of the decision itself.
Well street viewed the decision as unmls
takeably favorable to corporations that fall
Into the class of the alleged trust. The
effect of this view ! seen in the fact that
many of the largest advances were made
hy stocks for corporations, which are or
have been Involved In proceedings Insti
tuted by the government. L'nlon Pacific,
which Is Involved In the Harriman merger
suit, now pending In the courts, made the
larjrest gain of any of the active stock.

Price oa Boeurd of Trade.
CHICAOXJ, May 16. Wheat price sank
under free selling In the laat half of the
tKlon today. The decline was coincident
with talk by a prominent operator that
erop prospect In this country could
hardly be better and that a fall of 10c a
bushel from present value might easily
take place. Closing figures were the same
a laat night to i, down. Final trade
left corn Wo off to a snade up, oat unal
tered to Wft1 higher and hog products
Hkj20e lower.
According to the bear argument. If the
present wheat prospect were harvested a
decided fall In quotations could hardly be
escaped. The Idea wa advanced that If
th growing crop In France should prove
n average yield, the result would be
100,000,000 bushels leas demand on other
countries. During the early part of th
day It waa reported that moisture In Rus
sia wa Insufficient and European stock
reached a total .rntwih less than expected.
Local shipper dyeXoaded themselves on
thla Information and were subsequently
forced to let go at a loss. Price changes
for July ranged from 88(So to Wc
with the close steady, Wuhg off at fcSo.
Increasing country sales gave an easy
ton to corn. July fluctuated between
62Ho and 63ic, closing exactly th same as
laat night, at 6240. Cash was steady for
fjood grades, but low kinds wer weak.
No. 3 yellow finished at 643440.
Dry1 weather In Iowa and Illinois led to
a bulge in oats, and low figure for July
wer o3r4iS837o and 834C, with th close
2IV40, no different whatever from twenty

Stock yard dealers' trying to unload
