CATTLE Receipts of cattle this morning
were quite moderate, even for a Thursday,
and the total for tho four days this week
is almost 7,0u0 head short of the same days
last week, but, still, over 8.000 head larger
than for tha same week last year. Tha
market as A whole waa In very satisfactory
condition.
Packers all seemed to want a few beef
steers and were out In the yards early
In the morning, but, as haa been the oase
on a good many days of late, their orders
seemed to call for the light handy-weight
cattle which sold very readily at prices
steady to possibly a little stronger. On the
other hand, heavy cattle were not so much
sought after and were no more than steady.
Light yearling cattle were especially good
tellers.
Cows and heifers were also In good de
mand and the market active at firm prices.
Practically everything In sight changed
hands In very good season In the morning.
There were comparatively few stock cat
tle and feeders and It might be added that
not many were wanted. Prices were weak
and decidedly lower than was the case a
few days ago, but, still, tha country does
not appear very anxious for the stock sven
at reduced figures.

liutio-llD, tiau yielded a little under a
good-sized supply lodsy, but the tendency
to sag did not develop until after con
siderable business had been transacted on
a steady baals. (several droves were put
up at unchanged cost during early rounds,
handy butchers and bacon offerings meet
ing with populsr preference. After these
orders, calling for about 70 per cent of re
ceipts, were filled at figures steady to
possibly a little lower, the market gradu
ally weakened because of poor support.
Lat sales averaged cxfllOo lower, trade clos
ing at the full decline.
(euiand was reasonably active at tlmee,
bitt movement was rather quiet and it re
quired practically all of the morning to ef
fect a clearance of bulk. Speculative or
ders were hard to find and It was partially
due to this lack of competition that light
grades failed to make as creditable a top
as on yesterday.
Best bacon animals sold as high aa 84 44

various weights throughout the session.
Good butchers ranged around 8 2454 26 and
heavy lard offerings had to move around

main market was a very quiet affair at
prices about steady with yesterday.
Huslness In sheep was of rather small
volume, aa the big end of a normal attpplv
consisted of lambs. Scant offerings did
not apear lo sharpen demand, however,
and there was no appreciable Improvement
in the scale of values, uood ewes sold

Extra good wethers would probably sell aa
high as 86 .25. with choice yearlings at 23c

The general market on most days this
week has been in semi-demoralized condl
tion. All classes of stock are closing at de
clines. Din not on the decidedly low basis
of yesterday. The better kinds of lambs
are possibly a quarter lower for the four
nays, while sheep are also selling at much
the same discounts. Common lambs have
been meeting with a noor Inaulrv at all
times and have suffered more than other
offerings, present prices being about 26J
40c lower than those at last week s close.
