egram.) John H. Patterson was re-elected
mayor today by a majority of 38 votes
over Jack Dempsey, a bartender, Demp
fey's big vote coming from the First ward.

again by 178 majority, 1,140 votes being
cast on the proposition.

councilman from the Third ward and
Robert Haines, also dry, was re-elected

gram.) Out of 376 votes oast Ashland went
wry by five votes. Citizens Ucket with A.

an emphatic protest, against the recent re
habilitation of the professional gambling
element snd the Illegal sale of liquors.
Charles G. Ryan, president of the Commet
ctal club, being elected mayor by a, vote of
1,003 against 827. Aside from ' the lssus
Ryan's stronger personal Qualifications are
generally conceded to have affected the
one-sided result. Both candidates were for
the license policy.

Today's election in Hastings was remark
able for Its one-akledness. for by It the city

tion for a fifth consecutive term and for
the second time without regular competi
tion.
Running as republicans Mayor C. J. Miles,
City Clerk Bratton and City Treasurer
Cramer were first elected in 1903 and they
have held office ever since. They wore re
elected as republican pomlnees In 1904 and
lliOti and in 1909 and today as the nominees
of the high license party.' As In today's
election they had no opposition In the elec
tion of 19U6 and their license attitude Is un
changed.

for and 73 against, defeating the bonds by
a narrow margin of One vote.
