Dahlnian declare that the fur.da for running the fire department un-dr-r the double ahlft plan, which malntalna hre, are Insufficient. At the preeent time the council Is authorized to apportion 1250. 000 for the fire department. The revision bill ralsni the amount to $2.ono. lmhlman also elates that the police force will be reduced If the bill Is vetoed. Insuf ficiency of funds In this department Is also tiven as the reason for the cut. The irvlsed charter raises the amount that can he apportioned for police purposes from $:r.0.oon to liNg.ono. "Personally, I do not tare whether tha oovernor slornH the bill," says Mayor Dahl man. "Hut trom the viewpoint of the pulillc 1 will be extremely sorry. This was the statement made this morning by Jamos I.. YVoodard. assistant postmas ter. The order demanded the closing of the, carrier window on Sunday. Several of the postofflcea in this and other states have already complied with the order, t but it is the desire of the offi cials at the postofflce here to get the people acquainted . with the order before putting it Into effect. . The first Sunday In the coming month may see tha change. ' Now at least SAW people apply for mall at the carrier window on Sundays. This, he sava, is purely a liaUlt and can easily be overcome by the people, so that the change will not be noticed by them when put Into effect No other chanxe than the closing of the Carrier window will be made. The collections will be as usual and malls Will- be distributed Sundays. "The only effect the change will, have," aald Mr. YVoodard,, "will be more work for the carriers. They 'will have to rpt to work earlier on Monday mornings to han dle the large malls. The change will also cause the sale of many more private boxes among business men." COMPANY AGREES TO CHANGE Tickets Are to Be Accepted Between TiSO In the Morning and S O'clock In the Afternoon on School Days. Threatened by legislation which would revise the city ordinances regulating the hours when tickets held by school children are acceptable, officials of the street rail way company agreed to extend the hours Monday morning. Congressman Sheldon secured a conces sion from the street railway company to the effect that tickets held by school chil dren will be accepted by car conductors between the hours of 7:30 In the morning and 5 In the afternoon. Previously tickets have been good only between 8 and 10 In the morning and 2 and 5 In the afternoon. These tickets, which are sold at the rate of thirty for $1. have been purchased by scKool children for years. Little difficulty in getting the con ductors to accept the tickets has arisen, though occasional complaints hava been filed. But when the double shift program was decided on for the high school the ticket question was forced on the officials of the company and the holders of the tickets. The new plan provides that two sessions will be held In the high school daily, the morning aesslon ending at 12:10 and the afternoon session beginning at 12:30. Thia shift necessitates practically the entire at tendance at the high school riding on tha cars between 12 and 1. Backache is quickly relieved by using sixsers Vrlem, Mc SOc, and 01. OO.
