The bill provides for an annual license fee
on all machines and It will raise over
pflO.000 a year In this state.
Second Strike on
Atlantic Railroad
Trainmen on Northern End Refuse to
Take Out Train Carrying Stock
holders. ATLANTIC, la.. March 7. (Special Tele
gram.) Two thousand dollars was raised
at the all-night session of the stockholders
of the Atlantlo Northern Southern rail
road last night. As the sum was Insuffi
cient to meet all requirements the sub
scriptions were paid in cash and ordered
paid to workmen on the south line between
Atlantlo and Vllllsca. This news stirred
up employes of the north end, who went
on strike this morning and refused to take
out the special train carrying the directors
and officials to Elkhorn and Klmballtown.
The entire party of 200 stockholders Is tied
up here, while the employes refuse to turn
a wheel until they get their pay.
Court was in session here this afternoon
hearing the application of creditors for a
receiver. Rome outside man, representing
the creditors, probably will be named.
The stockholders have filed a petition
asking the court to extend the date for
the appointment of a receiver for thirty
days, but In the light. of the tietip today
this will probably not be granted.
FREIGHT HANDLERS STAY

CRESTON, Ia March 7.-(Speclal Tele
gram.) Following the discharge by rail
road officials of Q. M. Warner, president
of local No. 1'16. International Freight
Handlers' Union of America, the entire
force of freight handlers here walked out
today. Thi -trujn,. claim this .Is the sole
cause of their striking, and If Warner is
reinstated the will go . back.
The men have been dissatisfied for some
time over their wage' schedule and over
time work. Warner was asked by officials
to try to Induce the men to become satis
fied. He refused and was discharged.
Officials feared an outbreak, but the men
are quiet and say they will return to work
when Warner la reinstated.
William Jewell College Closed.
WEBSTER CITY, la., March 7. (t?pe-
clal.) Owing to an outbreak of scarlet
fever, Jewell Lutheran college and the
public schools of Jewell have been closed
and the town put under a strict quaran
tine. Several college students are down
with the disease and a number of the pu
pils of the schools are also suffering with
It. It has been slowly spreading for a
week and, finally, as a strict precautionary
measure and In order to stamp the scourge
out aa soon as possible, the college and
schools have been eloped and other public
gatherings prohibited until the disease Is
checked.
