GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET Wheat Conditions Are Even More Bearish Than Before. WHEAT BREAKS OFF SHARPLY torn Holds for si While and t.atrr Breaks 1st yni.ahy with x beat 4 by Frter tellies; 1st Ike f nantry. OMAHA. Feb. 13. 1911. The underlying conditions In the wheat situation are ever more besrlsH than before now that the drouth has lc-n broken and the crop is In much better simp than It has been since seeded. The recent steady decline, however, has aho-n discounted the bearish feat ires and shorts are covering t'iclr lines, which has a tendency to force values. The commercial value of corn has been well demonstrated, aa cash corn continues to hold steady In face of declines In other cereals. The present movement Is light, however, and should arrivals Increase the demand rrey not be sufficient to absorb of ferings. Wheat broke sharplv on general bearish conditions which lead longs to liquidate and brought out renewed selling orders by commission houses . Cawh deinsnd Is very dull snd there Is nothing to point to any Improvement. Corn, after holding firm on early trading, later broke In sympathy- with the break In wheat and reports of freer selling by the country holders. Cash corn was sick demand west has dropped off and samplea on the floor weak and lower. Primary wheat receipts were 40S.000 bushels and shipments of yfl bueliele. agalnHt receipts last vear of 6XX.0U0 bushels snd shipments of 243.0O0 bushels. Primary corn receipts were 1.IH7.000 bush els and shipments were 77?.OOn bushels, against receipts last year of 1.173.000 bush els snd shipments of 5H9.0O0 bushels. Clearances were 2'i0.noi bushels of corn, 3 0ii0 bushels of oats and wheat and flour equal to 146. OfO bushels. Liverpool closed unchanged to & lower on wheat and pnehanged on corn. Duluth CHICAGO URAIX AMI PROVISIONS Features of tbe Trading and Closlna; Prleea on Board of Trade. CHICAGO, Feb. 15 -Wheat today made a new low record for the season. Antl optlon and reciprocity were twin bugaboos. A decidedly nervous tone prevailed at the close, which was o to IViC under lant night. Other grain suffered less severely, corn finishing at a net decline of 'A'tfSiC to c, and oats off Ura0 to VVic. Lat est sales of hog products varied from 2ViO cheaper to a nickel advance. Wheat dealers were much unsettled by reports that political trading might In clude grain In the bcott anti-option bill to be voted on In Washington Friday. Heavy selling was based on this fear. An Idea that the Canadian reciprocity agree ment might go through the senate almost aa quickly aa through the house proved equally discouraging to the bull aide. In cidentally, good crop newa cam from the southwest, from Europe and from India, and there were free offerings of new wheat by Australia and the Argentine. Furthermore, domestic flour business ap peared to be In bad condition. Early In the day there had . been spirited buying due to belief that a rally might be ex pected following the recent decline of more than 10c. Purchasing power, how ever, seemed to exhaust Itself before noon. May ranged from 0!4,o to KTio, closing lVsc down at 9lc. Com finally sagged with wheat. May varied between 4Vno and 49o, with the close unsettled at 4MH8c, a net loss of Vp'SiO. Cash corn was easy. No. 3 yel low finished at 4tWKiH7o. oate went to pieces under selling by owners who were hedging cash holdings here or elsewhere. May fluctuated from 314ko to aj(i32'4c, and closed down at 31 Va 31 M,p, Provisions made only a feeble response to hlKher prices for hofrs. SWIFT RISE UNSETTLES MARKET Stock Falls Off earlr Pelat on A n sssrrnst ('t'omlif Hrllrrmral of 41enra Goald Irons I'res . Ideary of Rood. NEW YORK. Feb. lS-Misyouil Peclfic was a dominant factor In speculation on the Stock exchange toilav. After a day of feverish speeiilauon in the stock, djirlng which It advanced nearly 4 points and then fell back almost as much, came the an nouncement that (irorge .1. Uould would relinquish the presidency, and that repre sentatives of the Ktihn. Ixeb Standard Oil and Herman Interests would enter the board at the annual meeting next month. Missouri Pacific's swift rise to 63 on heavy dealings soon alter the opening un settled the general market. The list grew steadier, however, on the reaction in Mis souri Pacific, and remained close lo last night's level until the end of the session. Missouri Pacific Itself fell oft nearly a point on announcement of Mr. Gould's contlna; retirement, and closed with only a fractional net gain. Discount rates in Ixindon weakened, owing largely to the incressed supply of money, due to the payment of $6,ooo.000 for treas ury bills. Advices from that center seem to foreshadow a reduction In the Bank of England a rate tomorrow. It had been feared by some that the sharp break In prices yesterday and day before might render the country rather panicky and might flood the market with cattle. It waa very evident thla morning, however, that the country has no such Intentions and la prepared to hold back supplies In caae tne .price drops too low. Chicago waa ex pectlng 20,000 head thla morning, but only received about 15,000 and other markets had a similar experience. Under the Influence of the small offerings or cattle and a feellna that receipts the re malnder of the week would continue light. the market this morning on beef steers was safely loo higher at the very least. A good many salesmen were Quoting an advance of 10t$16o and some comparing today's sales witn tne extreme low point yesterday and day before, were declaring that - some of the cattle at. least sold 15(g.'25o higher. To aay the leaat, there was a, great Improve ment In the day'a trade and a considerable proportion of decline recorded yesterday and day before waa recovered. What has been aald regarding beef steers wouia apply in equal degree to cowa and heifers. They were In active demand and safely 10ffl6o higher and in some cases pos sibly more than that compared witn the ex treme low point yesterday and the day be fore. The market waa quite active at the advance noted and practically everything in aignt changed hands In good season in the morning. It waa hardly to be expected that there should be a very active demand for stock cattle and feeders while the weather la aoft and feed lota In a miry condtlon. Still there was considerable Inquiry this morning and as fresh receipts were light the offerings sold quite ( readily at good ateady prices. Buyers, In some caaea, at least, claimed that they were forced to pay a little more money than yesterday.
