Feb. 9. Improved domestic
call for cash wheat strengthened the op
tion market today, and caused slowly ris
ing pricea from the atart. The upward
movement was retarded somewhat by be
lief on the part of many traders that a
reciprocity enactment had become highly
probable. Closing figures, however, wars
at a net advance of '.VeiV to Sc. The
day's business left all other leading sta
ples, too, at a level aliove last night corn
up "c to 'rric; oata. VMj4c to Vic, and
hog products, 10c to 30o.
There was said to have been much buy
ing of Canadian wheat for export account.
lxcal sales of cash grades reached a to
tal of o6.000 bushels In small lots, with the
purchasers widely acattered, Indicating a
general demand that of lata has been con
spicuously missing. Primary receipts were
short of a year ao, and there waa a no
ticeable let up In country offerings. Un
expectedly higher quotations at Liverpool
formed another valuable source of assist
ance to the bulls. The final tone wag firm.
May fluctuations ran ffom WhiO to Vc,
with laet sales Ho up at 9f0. '
Corn waa dominated In the end by wheat
trength. Karller In the day, free offer
ings of Nebraska shipments at big dis
counts weakened the market for a while.

Oats rallied with wheat and corn. May
varied from 31c to 82Lc. and cloeed at
2V324c, a net gain of WS'c.
In the provision pit the competition be
tween buyers resulted In a sharp advance
all around. At the final gong, pork was

and ribs dearer by a dime.

The quality of beef steers this morning
was not so good aa yesterday, that Is, there
were comparatively lew really good cattle
on sale. Buyers had evidently shaped
things up to buy thulr cattle lower tula
morning and the feeling right from tha
outset was weak. Still the tact that there
were ao lew good cattle In aight compelled
them to pay prices for decent killers that
were generally steady with yesterday. How
ever, tha general run of cattle were, If any
thing, a little lower than yesterday morn
ing. Tha market closed weak yesterday
and prices today may possibly have been
not much different from yeaterday'a close.
A large proportion of the cattle in the
yarda consisted of cows and hellers. Thut
fact, together with tha feeding on the part
of buyers that they have been paying very
strong pricea at this point aa compared
with other markets, made them .still more
bearish and tho market on the general run
of cow atuff waa slow to as much aa 10c
lower than yesterday.
The country has not been buying feeders
any too freely this week and speculators
already had quite a number on hand this
morning with the prospect that they might
meet with difficulty In effecting a clearance
before tha close ot the week. As a result,
the speculative buying waa not quite ao
active this morning uu it haa been on pre
vious days this week with the result that
the feeling waa weak with prices, aa a
rule, little lower than yesterday.
