The quality of beef steers this morning was not so good aa yesterday, that Is, there were comparatively lew really good cattle on sale. Buyers had evidently shaped things up to buy thulr cattle lower tula morning and the feeling right from tha outset was weak. Still the tact that there were ao lew good cattle In aight compelled them to pay prices for decent killers that were generally steady with yesterday. How ever, tha general run of cattle were, If any thing, a little lower than yesterday morn ing. Tha market closed weak yesterday and prices today may possibly have been not much different from yeaterday'a close. A large proportion of the cattle in the yarda consisted of cows and hellers. Thut fact, together with tha feeding on the part of buyers that they have been paying very strong pricea at this point aa compared with other markets, made them .still more bearish and tho market on the general run of cow atuff waa slow to as much aa 10c lower than yesterday. The country has not been buying feeders any too freely this week and speculators already had quite a number on hand this morning with the prospect that they might meet with difficulty In effecting a clearance before tha close ot the week. As a result, the speculative buying waa not quite ao active this morning uu it haa been on pre vious days this week with the result that the feeling waa weak with prices, aa a rule, little lower than yesterday.
