I IOO 8 Hog trade had
this morning. Early It was a nickel higher
affair, shipper filling limited orders on
this basis. Later, when packers started
to buy, price were no better than fully
steady. Toward the close the demand from
local quarters took on mote urgency and
final business appeared to be almost aa
high as opening trade. The low spot In
the middle of the market was featured by
quiet movement, but there wa a fair de
gree of activity at other time.
Supplies were moderate, with light mixed
and butcher offering more plentiful than
heavy and heavy packing grades. Good
heavies were wanted and brought the full
advance as a rule. Average quality of
receipts showed some Improvement, sev
eral loads moving at and near the top
price.
Smooth heavies sold around (7.70tT7.75.
with less desirable weighty hog at $7.6
and under. Light mixed and bacon ani
mals commanded (7.76&7.80, tops reaching
(7.K5. Packers bought bulk of all weight
and clearance was early.

CATTLE Receipts of
liberal today. 177 car being reported
but the receipt are running considerable
behind last week. The total for the three
days foots up about 15.0 11 head, a falling
off of about 26.000 head as compared with
last week still as compared with a year
ago there Is a gain of a little over l.OuO
head.
Beef steers were In very good demand
this morning and the market was fairly
active at prices that were anywhere from
steady to quite a little stronger. Most
salesmen were sizing up the trade aa a
good strong market and entirely satisfac
tory to the selling Interests. Oood beeves
sold up to $6.35.
Cows and heifers were In good demand
and the desirable kinds at least sold In
about the same notches aa yesterday.
There was an Inclination on the part of
salesmen to bear down on the less desir
able kinds, but still taking the market as
a whole there was not much change.
Blockers and feeders were sought after

fals proportions thla morning and consisted
largelv of fed weatern stork. The demand
for anything fit to kill was ample, how
ever, and movement from the atart was
active In every branch of the trade. There
appeared to he noma disposition among
buser to avoid the plain and heavy
grade of live mutton, native especially,
and .thla das of atock found a poor outlet
Lambs showed, some Improvement In
price, bulk of good dressers selling strong
to a dime higher than yesterday. Prim
quality was wanted and moved readily at
.ais.1&, one string of choice animal
bringing the latter figure. Heavy lambs
had to sell below the JX.OO mark.
Sheep and yearling held tea4iy. awe
selling aa high aa $lit) and wethers com
manding $4.1.6. The wethers were rstber
fleshy, however, and choice handywelght
would probably ell at $4 3 or better
Yearling of desirable finish brought $5 011
and more, but avoidance of weight In tha
yearling branch of the trade was decidedly
pronounced and anything weighing over
100 pound had to go below the $5.00 mark
Closing trade was rather dull, svallahle
offering on the late market carrying too
much weight to make them attractive.

lower European markets. There did not
seem to be a great deal of support early
and price eased off to a net lo of about
