TwenlV econd and Maple streets. Tuesday even ing, aged T years. Mr. Kuony had suf fered with a sever attack ot grip for a week. Yesterday afternoon ho was stricken with paralysis and died early In the even ing. No funeral arrangement have been made. Mr. Kuony la survived by his wlfa and a brother, Albert E. Kuony, J'SU Miami street. Mr. Kuony life was a romantic on and life that demonstrated the truth that It Is ""C road of hard luck Hint has no turning. Th vessel was beset with such severe storms that some passengers died and other went mad. Because ot th storms th Journey was slow and provision gav out several day before New York City wa reached. Tanght In New lurk School. Because of hi Inability to speak the Eng lish language the young man experienced difficulty In securing a good position in New York. He taught school for a whtla and then tended bar. He managed to sav enough money to travel overland to Iowa City, la. The friends he expected tu meet there were gone, n could not learn whera. II spilt rails for a while and finally drifted to St. Louis. Here he secured em ployment In an architect's office. Then cholera attacked the city, home way he lived through the scourge, lull the architect was gone and he found himself n'lium helpless. Mr. Kuony accepted an offer of a position In the Taclflc house, Council Bluff, made by Satnurl Bayllss. Council Bluffs at the time bore the name of Kane vlllc. In November, ls54. Mr. Kuony took a claim four miles west of the river. It oost him $25. A little later he concluded It was worthless and gave It up. Mr. Kuony took a position ag cook In Omaha's first hotel, th Douglaa house, Thirteenth and Harney streets. He cooked meals for th legislators of the first ter ritorial legislature. After the legislature closed Mr. Kuony s employers disposed of the hotel and offered him ten city lots In lieu of his $H0 wages. He elected to ac cept the cash, not foreseeing the great growth of land values In this section. I Second Omaha Weddlna. He was married In 1S5 to Miss Reglna Maag. another employe of the, Douglaa house. The marriage was the second ever ' performed r Omaha. The pair started a hotel, but It was not successful. Mr. Kuony tried real estate. He succeeded. Then panic In 1HT.7 swept away all he had made. II traveled to Denver and other western cities, but always was pursued by hard lurk. In 1W7 they went to Calhoun, Neb., alerted a store. Then they prospered. The store maintained for twenty years, until and was 1SS7, when Mr. Kuony retired. During his i evi dence in Calhoun. Mr. Kuony at different times was mayor, city councilman and city, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Kuony removed to Omaha In lbST. purchased property and built a home at Twenty-second and Maple streets, whera they have since resided. Mr. Kuony was a member of the Omaha Board of Trad from Its orgs n'.xat Ion In 1877. For many yaaia he was a member of Solomon lodge. No. 10, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons.
