American Foot Ball
Puzzles Writers
Across the Big Pond
Did Not Enow How to Take the Game
When Two Battleship Teams
Play.
Foot ball a played in America sorely
puzxled the London reporter who went
to th Crystal Palace on Thanksgiving
clay to see the match between a team from
the battleship Idaho and on from the
Vermont. One writer in hla description
frankly admits that to attempt to describe
the game In technical detail would bo
beyond the power of any English trained
f'jot ball reporter.
Another call it "the fiercest thing in
game." Take, he says, two part Uraeco-
Roman wrestling, one part catch tia catch
can, season with a little French boxing,
add a ball, and serve hot. That 1 the
recipe for American foot ball.
F. B. Wilson, a well known writer on
sports, says: "Th American gam 1 en
tirely different to English rugby or asso
ciation. No doubt, after playing It halt
a dozen times, the survivor, If he survive,
would understand th thing properly
One thing la certain, anyway; the game Is
a game for men men as the Romans used
the distinction between real men and just
humans of the male sex."
After the first three-uuarters Kohler of
the Idaho team emerged with a bandage
round nls he.id and others were limping,
but il did not matter, fur Idaho won with
19 points to nothing. Tbey received the
challenge cup from the duke of Man
chester. "It a great game." said Columbus, A.
B. of the Iuaho. with his mouth full of
sponge, 'but the ground's too soft to fall
on here. Now, if it had been frosty and
hard." he added meaningly, ' these fellow
of the Vermunt ."

Mr. Elllck said; "That Is a matter for tho

Judge Willis O. Bears, before whom tho
Taylor-Blanck case was tried, said tha
matter has not been called to his attention,
