CAT 1 LE Receipts of cattle, as usual on
Saturday, amounted to almost nothing,
there not being enough In sight to make a
market. For the week receipts foot up 18,467
head, being practically he same aa last
week, but over 5,000 head larger than a year
ago.
in spite of the fact that receipts have
been quite liberal and eastern markets
none too good, the demand at this point
has been brisk enough to force a gradual
advance In values. Thus at the close of
the week cornfed beeves, which have con
stituted the bulk of supply of fat cattle.
are around lO-riAic higher than at the close
of last week. The quality of the cattle com
ing has not been very good, so that top
pilce have not shown any change, but
there have been mora cattle selling near the
top than was the case at the cloee of last
week.
Cows and heifers have experienced a
good demand throughout the week and they,
too, have steadily firmed up, showing at
the close a gain of 10ii'26o over last week.

SHEEP There were no fresh receipts
of sheep in sigm una morning and
everything received yesterday was disposed
of there was absolutely nothing on sale
today. For the week receipts have been
very liberal for this season of the year
showing a considerable gain over last week
and a heavy gain over a year ago. As
the arrivals have consisted almost entirely
of fat stall the number or killers on sale.
both sheep and lambs, has been unusually
large.
It will be remembered that last week's
.... rl .1 r. 1 1 1 a. 1 u.i'v Vilirh an ..U'On..
around $1 00 being quoted on lamba, with
sheep bUkj ,6a higher. The present wee
opened with fat sheep about steady, but
with lamba loxu lie lower. On Tuesday light
aheap and lambs were quoted as about
steady, the heavy sturr was slow and lower,
Wednesday's market showed a decided Im
provement, the loss earlier In the week
made up so that lambs sold aa high as
t si. which was the toD on Fridav. th
week before. Tne unpi uvsioent, however.
sieedlly u.lshed on Thursday ana the
.i.iwnward movement In wlu,, waa con
tinued yesterday, when all kinds slumped
badly.
After allowing for the break yesterday
and the day be ore it la sale to quote prices
at the close of the present week around
l 6-600 lower than th high close last week.
Thus on last Friday the beat lambs sold
up to $ 6o, while at the close of the pres
ent week It would take something right
ood to bring $0 00, the top yesterday hav
fug been only $6.15, for the best light
weights. The outside price on choice heavy
lambs would be not over $6.60. A tew year
lings brought 66. ou yesterday, but th feel-
iiik la that it would tak light good liaht
weights to bring over $4 86, whll heavy
yearlings would not bring over $4.60. It
would also take right good light weight
wethere to bring $3 80 and very choloe ewes
to bring $1 26. In fact it Is a question if
they would sell even as high as tbat at
the close of the week.
The cause fur the sudden slump In prices
Is to be found In the fact that buyers
wire rilled up ana aia not neea as man;
fat sheep and lambs as arrived here Fn
day. Also to the tart tni eastern mar
kets, especially Buffalo, are way below
this market.
Feeders have been In very light supply
all the week and good demand.

CIIICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS
Features of the Trading; and Closing
Prices on the Hoard of Trade.
CHICAGO, Dec. t. Larger speculators of
the professional sort reinstated today some
of the wheat sold out twenty-four hours
previously during the flurry caused oy
weakness In Wall street. Freezing weather
coming on unprotected fields southwest
had much to do with the latest change of
front. Renorted complete failure of the
crop in llahla Blanca and Santa Fe, Ar
gentina, added to the feeling of strength.
In consequence closing prices were firm at
a net advance of "VS7c to lc. Other sta
ples, too, all finished higher, corn up Vac
to ViiTc, oats HH'hio and provisions bit
22c.
Wheat rose steadily from the start. Pre
dictions of a cold wave were accompanied
by bullish Argentina and French cables
and were followed by news of large clear
ances from the United States. Primary re
ceipts of the week showed a big falling off
as compared with last year. Anxiety re
garding drought damage to the winter
crop was decidedly Increased. Final tran
sactions were almost the highest point of
the session. May ranged from 8640 to tio.
Closing Ho up at 974c, Eastern cash grain
dealers reported stocks of corn low. May
fluctuated from 477c to 4SVtr4S"!c, closing
firm at 4i.o, a gain of o over last night.
Cash corn was strong. No. t yellow fin
ished at 52Vs63c.
Offerings of oats were light. May varied
from 34o to 364'335VjC, with latest sales
at 35HO ,a net advance of VSl7c.
Fairly good buying from pit shorts put

Dry Gooaia Market.
NEW YORK, Dec. 4. DRY GOODS The
cotton goods market held fairly steady last
week, but has not broadened perceptibly In
the domestic good division.
Jobbers are buying In moderate quanti
ties to supply Immediate needs and are
not anticipating on the staple lines. They
have bought liberally of certain makes of
cotton quilts, towellngs and other goods
that will hav to be made, but only when
ordered.
The movements of merchandise on old
orders has been good for a week or more
and agricultural sections promise a better
business soon. The chief difficulty selling
agents are finding Is in getting prices that
will take care of 15-cent cotton.
Jobbers are not talking of lower priced
goods, but are careful about ordering) while
nigh prices rule. Prints have been selling
teadlly. Ginghams also ar well condi
tioned as to orders booked. Bleached
good are quiet and the mills will soon be
gin to accumulate stocks unless new busi
ness comes.
Drills and sheetings rule quUt. Fine and
fancy cotton are In moderate demand on
reorder for spring. Cotton yarns hold
fairly steady. Fleeced hosiery for fall of
1911 will be opened Monday at last season'
prices.
