The week's supplies, how ever, have been very liberal, footing up .'".it" head or some 1.S0O head more than a wk ago and 10,000 more than a year ago. Supplies of cornfed beeves have been Increasing, but the demand for them has not been very extensive of late, owing to the demoralized condition of the beef mar kets down east. Reports from eastern centers indicate the markets are glut ted with beef and practically the only de pendable outlet Is for the cheaper grades, so that local dress beef men have been making a strong effort to 'get the cornfed cattle lower. Values have ruled very un even all week, but in the main closing quotations are generally fjOiiOOc lower than two weeks ago. The best cattle here this week brought $7.06, snd the bulk of the native beeves are selling around $6.Oog.50. The tone to the market at the clos was decidedly weak. Cows and heifers have also met with a very uneven demand, but closing quota tions ara not so very much different from those of a week ago. As a rule the demand for butcher stock has been broader and the market steadier than for beef steers, owing to the fact that the market la ab sorbing the butcher grades of beef more rapidly than the higher priced stuff. Out side demand ha been very fair all week for the desirable h elf ery grades, but the fair to medium hinds have been more or less Irregular sellers, the condition of the market depending much on the size of the receipts. Business in stockers and feeders has been more or lesn demoralized this week and the trend of values has been lower from start to finish, owing to the recent sharp decline In values of cornfed cattle the de mand has fallen off very materially and while there has been some inquiry rignt along for the tnore desirable grades, the market has suffered a severe break and values are from 2T.rWo lower than last week. In point of prtees the week lias been a rather uncertain one from the start. Re ceipts were larger than expected, about 130.000 head showing up since last Satur day, but the demand at no stage has been very active. The western country sent In the big bulk of offerings and, as might he expected at this time of the year, quality has been generally common and even trashy. Very few fat grass lambs arrived, but de spite this fact, values are closing around 15cf25e lower for the week, a burdensome supply of natlvea in the east making pos sible cheaper cost. Good rangers are hardly 1 quotable over $6.60 with well-finished fid animals, or wnicn receipts nave uceu mea ger, at small premiums. Fat cheep, while slow throughout, show no appreciable change, closing steady to posslhlv a little lower In spots. The le tall channels for mutton are less easily clogRfd, of course, and this condition ac counts for the broader demand for this class of stock. Choice fat wethers are onolnhln at $4 00 or better. ,or traae uropis-u ur a ueep rui aunng opening days and failed to Improve as the week advanced. It has been a dxiggy deal for sellers at figures weak to sharply lower, light lambs showing the greatest de clines. Pee-wees have been selling under $4.00. Indicating losses of 60060c, as com pared with quotations a week ago. Fleshy feeder lambs around $5 60 are hardly worse than a quarter lower. Thin ewes with good mouths and feeder wethers are In much the same notches as at last week's close, but common ewes are still below the $3.00 mark with prices slightly lower for the week.
