ihe dealings In United Stales Steel were
on an enormous scale and recalled the davs

Ihe growing Congestion of the dealers In

some suspicion of the general movement
on the score that a desire to distribute a

the back of the present market movement.
Ihe Immediate new from the steel trade

of cattle were light,
as usual on a Friday, ouiy thirty-six
fresh cars being reported in, but this
brings the total for the five days up to
40,00 head, a gain ot almost 4,000 head as
compared with the corresponding time last
week and of almost 6.U00 iiead as coinpaieu
with the corresponding period a year ago.
There were hardly enough beet steers
in sight this morning to make much of a
test of the market but what few there
were commanded steady prices. Consider
ing the large receipts the market has been
in remarkably good condition throughout
the week. At the close It is safe to quote
all desirable beeves, both corn-fed and
ranget. as strong to A little higher tnun
a week ago.
As usual on a Friday, the trade In cows
and heifers was slow and dull, but still
prices were about steady witn yesterday,
and fully steady with a week ago, or, poaal
bly, a little stronger on the belter grades.
Heavy and medium weight veal calves are
very slow sellers at prioes around 6Oc(U$1.00
lower than the high time a week or ten
days ago. On the other hand, strictly good
light native calves are steady with A week
age, still selling as high as 37.00.
What few blockers and feedera there
were In sight commanded about steady
prices as compared with yesterday. The
beat light yearlings and 2-year-olds are
steady, but other grades are lla-o lower
than a week ago.
