It was- noticeable,' however, that tho buying did not- follow the advances very ' far, and the choppy trade that resulted was not conducive to investment. The close was steady and ahowed a net gain of 4c to He Final sales of corn were fcer to iHc , lower than last. night. Oats were Wo up to Vo off, and hog products cheaper by 12V4c -to 22V4c. The buying temper In the Wheat pit was pronounced, In-the- full knowledge, too, thet there had only been an advance of me in a week at Buenos Ayres, An effort had been made to show by the comparison of prices that the drought was proving more of a sensation at a, dlstanoe than nearer at hand. The effect, though, was more than offset by cablegrams to firms here asserting that damage had been done and Implying that more would result If the absence of rain continued. On the other hand general news was all bearish. Stocks In this country piled up rapidly and world shipments were expected to be virtually 2.0uu,000 bushels heavier than a year ago. Itocember ranged between 977Ao and DSc, ' finishing M&So up at BSHc 4 Pine weather and shipments from Argen tine and lower cables caused selling sentl- ftnent in corn. Oct. 7 Speculation lapsed I U?':"? into apathy today, and prices vibrated within a narrowing range. There wis rn appearance of strength at times, hut the effort to ndvance the prominent speculative stocks met with the same kind of ob stacle In the form of free selling as earlier In the week. The strength of copper Industrials was based evidently on advance knowledge of the character of the monthly report of tho copper producers' association. As soon as that was published, the advance In the coppers also came to a half and the whole market fell Into stagnation. A reduction of 2O.0iin,0O0 pounds In the stocks of copper on hand made an imposing showing on its face, but some dlsappo nt ment was felt over the manner In which that result had been achieved, as shown by the details of the report. Deliveries Into domentle consumption, In fact, showed a moderate falling off from the August total, the Increase in total deliver ies being wholly due to an expansion of upwards of 13,000.000 pounds In the month's exports. Preliminary .estimates of the week's cur rency movement Indicated an outflow of nilPORT OF THE ('LEA RING IIOI SB Transactions of the Associated Ranks for the Week. NEW YORK, Oct. 7. The following is a list of the cities: I Clearings. Inc. Dec nenrly $4,000,000 cash from' New York. The loss to the subtreHsury for the week was reduced to less than a million dollars, but shipments to the interior by express rose considerably over those of last week. The requirements of the crop movement thus far are shown to be unsatisfied. This showing is held to explain the cautious attitude maintained by the hanks In put ting out fresh credits during the week. The discount rate was easier in London and the Bnnk of England Is increasing its gold holdings. Bonds were steadqy. Totat sales par value. $1,99.000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. It might be noted, however, that receipts for the five days show a falling off of over 6,000 head, as compared with the same days last week, and of about 4,000 head, as compared with a year ago. There were not many beef steers here to make a market, but the feeling was gen erally steady and thtre was very little change to bo noted. This was also the case with cows and heifers and the general mar ket on all kinds of killing cattle might be quoted as practically steady with yester 5ay. Stockers and feeders were Blow and weak. Speculators have been free buyers all the week and they found themselves this morning with a large number of cattle still on hand, the country demand yester day having proven somewhat disappoint ing. As a result they were unwilling to take on more cattle unless they could force some little concession as compared with yesterday. quotations on native cattle: Good to choice beef steers. Bulk of offerings, both light and heavy, went to the scales at figures about a nickel higher. Movement was lalrly active from the open ing and oleaiance of early supply was practically complete. A few shipments that came in late, however, did not find packers aa anxious to buy as early and bids dropped back to a steady basis, the market closing at prices little, If any, higher than those of yesterday. Heavy hogs sold around t.S5tj8 46. with choice lights as high aa 33. 0v Medium weight mixed moved around 38.66, quality and weight determining the price. Trade during the first three days of this week was generally lower, but some reac tion lately wiped out a good part of the early decline. Present valuea on heavies are little worse than a nickel lower than Saturday sales, while good lights are fully steady. Supplies on all days have been limited. Representative sales SHF.M' Ak-ar-Pen attractions were too tempting for vtMtlng sheep buyers yester day and the afternoon found few more than a corpora! s guard on hand to aosorb a ftlrly large supply of feelers. Final clear ance was only fair, wlih prices on the general run of stuff right around a dime lower than thofe of Wednesday. This de cline also applied to fat stock, lambs es pecially, as packets were In no mood to load up with material, while killing gangs were Idle. Good fat lambs had to sell around $rt.T0. with good fat wetheis around 84.00. Feeder Inmbs of desirable quality, welKliing 6.1 to on pounds, ranged from S5 M ifni.lti, but It still tikes t6.2f or better to buy best flisliy grades. Lights and pee wees are selling at 34.vW5.is, according t i quality and weifht. Feeder ewes have been relatively scarce lately and show little. If any, weakness. Ewes with good mouths thst can be used for breeding purposes are wanted at $3.2Ti snd better, but strings that are strictly feeders are not quotable over this figure. In point of prices, today' trade pre sented no very new- features. Bulk of rltsrances sold in nbout the same notches already noted, both feeder and fat. Re ceipts were fairly large for a Friday and consisted mainly of feeders. Demand wss rather backward, however, and early trade did not produce very many sales. Receipts for the five days this week are heavy, but prior to yesterday the demand was ample at well-sustained prices. As will be noted in the revised list of values, the trade at present is Just about a dime lower that it was a week ago, this decline embracing everything except good feeder ewes.
