A week-end rally was expected In wheat after having been liquidated so severely. Traders all concede that bearish conditions still exist. v lthout some outlet lor tne accumulated stocks In the way of an ex port and mllHng demand prices will work still lower. There SDneara ta be no bullish news to prevent corn from selling lower despite the irregular decline of the last two monias. October 1 la here and no accident has occurred to the growing crop and this createa very bearish feeling. Wheat firmed as was expected and Liv erpool showed a firmer tone. It Is thought that milling demand may Improve now mat values have had some advance, but the conditions are bearish and only temporary advances are probable. With some Drosnecta of the weather turn ing unfavorable and covering by ahorta who felt the break had discounted the bearish conditions and light offering from the country gave corn aome show of strength. primary wheat receipts were i,iu, bushels and shipments were L0,0i0 bushels, against receipts last year of 1,709,000 bushels and shipments of 772,000 bushels. primary corn receipts were blt.wu Dusneis and shipments were 622,000 bushels, against receipts last year of 6S2.000 busneis ana shipments of 443.000 bushels. Week end buying based on fear of an oversold condition In the wheat market here rallied prices today, Probability that the week's increase in tne visible supply will fall 1.0u0,0uu bushela short of the gain a year ago was another help for the bulls. The close showed a net advance of Vuc to Ttiflc. Corn finished o to S'c higher man last night, and oats up Vc to W4eC. Latest figures for provisions varied lrora 27fto gain to a loss of 15c. Most of the demarld for wheat apparently came irom snorts Dut tnere waa aiso little Investment buying of a better sort than recently. One of tne causes waa that the receipts at primary points were mucn smaller than a year ago and the ship ments somewhat larger. For the week primary receipts were nearly 4,00o,OiA) Dushels under those of the corresponding time twelve months ago. There waa a steadily enlarging trade, too, in cash wheat at higher premiums. Moreover, fotelgn markets were steadier than had been antl clpated. although, world shipments are now estimated to be greater than yesterday's forecast. The clone was firm at the best prices of the session. December ranged from 96696kC to 9Vc. with last transac tions Vfllc up at 970. Strength In corn today, vu looked on as a natural reaction from the declines In the week. December fluctuated from 46c to 49'a49Vc, and closed firm at .8c net higher at 49c. The cash market was weak. No. 2 yellow closed at 51(g6lc. In oats a better tone was apparent. De cember sold between 320 and 3c, clos ing &ac above last night at 32Tc. The provision trade was a Jeray, uncer tain affair, with a stronger tendency. Final quotations were 15c higher to 16c lower for pork; 100 to 1012ViO up for lard, and with rioa at an aavance ot wnc. MAYOR TRALN0R ISSUES ORDER Owlngf to tho lacreaao la th Nanaher of Wards, More Voting; Maehlaea Mast Bo Par. y rhaaed. Mayor P. J. Tralnor met the police de partment last night at roll call on be half of the Board of Fire and Polled Commissioners and Informed the patrolmen that each man would be held responsible for his own beat In the matter of Illegal sales of liquor. Thla action by the mayor followed a meeting of the board, at which bootlegging and other forms of disorder, especially pool hall gambling, were dis cussed. After the question was thoroughly threshed over the board adopted a resolu tion, holding eaoh patrolman responsible for hla beat, and ha will be required to de tect and arrest parties engaged in the pro hibited forma of business. Many complaints have been lodged with the board concerning these forms of dis order and It has been found out that tho patrolmen usually do not Interfere with out orders covering each special case from the police authorities higher up. Thla practice. If the ordera of the board hold. Is to be reversed and the patrolmen will be required to make immediate ar rest of any parties detected. New Voting- Machines. Since the division of South Omaha Into seven wards It will be necessary for the city to purchase two new voting machines. A committee of the South Omaha council held a conference on the matter Friday and determined to order the machines; that they might be on hand In time for the November election. Laat aprlng In South Omaha tha demo erata objected very strongly to having the machines voted out, believing they had a better chance with their use. Tho same ia now held by the same party which banks on the local popularity of the demo cratic candidate for governor. They fig ure that all republicans voting for Dahl man will pull the democratic levor. Tha fact la there Is no reason for doing this whatever. The republican should alwaya pull hla own party lever, then wlahlng to vote for a democrat, change hla ticket Thla will give hla own candidates tha preference where he does not know them pereonally or have reason to canool their names.
