Quartermaster Sergeant Charles Yeager Re-Enlists After Forty Years

fantry is Detailed to Fill Vacancy in the Subsistence Department.

John H. Hughes, Fourth Infantry is de
tailed for service and to fill a vacancy In
the subsistence department of the nrmy to
take effect December 14, 1910. Captain Ntttt
man, Substlstence department Is relieved
from that duty to take effect December
15, and la assigned to the Fourth Infantry
for duty, he will be assigned to a company
for duty by his regimental commander.
Captain Halftead Dorey, Fourth Infantry,
is hereby relieved from further duty at
tort Jay, New York, and will proceed to
his regiment for duty, the order Is dated
aslilngton, D. C, September 22, 1910.

Post Quartermaster Sergeant Charles
Yeager, was re-enlisted at this post, last
week by First Lieutenant Blase Cole. Medi
cal reserve corps, for another term of
three years and will stay at the Quarter
master department In this post where
he has been stationed for the last fif
teen years. Sergeant Yeager has Just com
pleted forty years of continuous service
for his country, and Is the oldest enlisted
nian on duty today In the service. Ser
geant Yeager has had five five year en
listment periods, and five three yeur en
listment periods, and Is still good for some
more yet. He was mads a post quartermas
ter sergeant about thirty years aao and
had the position continuously ever since
Sergeant Knight, one of the committee
on d usees at this poM, Intend to see that
the dances which start when the troops
come back, will be run on a larger and
better scale than ever before. A neat pro
gram will be furnished, new music, and
the crowd will be as orderly aa before.
The first dance will probably be held about
Wednesday, October 12, and will continue
throughout the winter that way.
First Lieutenant Blase Colo, Medical Re
serve corps. U. 8. A., who has been at

Monday evnlng arriving there in time to
report in person to Colonel Louis A. La
Garde, Medical Corpa, U. S. A., president
of the Army Medical school at that city

class with First Lieutenant Clemens W. Mc
Millan, who was also one of the doctors at
the hospital here, he having left for Wash
ington Thursday evening, and stopping for
a short time to visit with relatives in St.
Louis Mo. Lieutenant Cole first went to
New York City, then to Halnsvllie. N. J
where he will visit with his parents. Dr.
and Mrs. Cole. Both doctors will be missed
as they were great favorites with all the
enlisted men and officers of the post, and
all were sorry to see them go. Upon
their graduation next June, they will be
commissioned First lieutenants in the med
ical corps of the army and will probably
be sent to the Philippines for duty. They
left this post with the best wishes of the
garrison who wish them all the sucoess In
the world at their new places of duty.
Dr. Beit R. Huntington, who took the ex
amination for the medical corps of the
army at this post In June is also a student
at the Army Medical school.
Private Flynn of Company D, Fourth In
fantry, reported at this post a few days ago
as absent without leave from his command
ing officer, and was placed In confinement
awaiting orders from his company, he will
probably be kept here until the return of
tils company from Omaha, Neb.

from the service of the United States by
reason of expiration of term of nervloe,
and did not re-enllst at this post. Private
Craft leaves this week for Fort Logsn,
Colo., where, It Is understood, he Intends
enlisting again for general recruiting
service. Few of the men discharged at this
post are re-enllstlnir again.
Private James Sullivan, who Is confined
to the hospital with an injured shoulder,
ia conveleeetng rapidly.
The troops of this command were mus
tered Friday, September 30, by their
respective commanders. Company H was)
mustered on the parade In front of their
quarters by the commanding officers. All
casuals were mustered In front of hend
quarters by the commanding offloer, and
the detachment hospital corps on the
parade In front of the hospital by Major
Joseph Taylor Clarke, who is In command
of the hospital; the uniform was dress. All
attended except the men in oharge of quar
ters, sick, mall orderly, bakers, cooks,
prisoners and switch board operators.
Sergeant Otto Tledeman, Fourth Infan
try, was unable to accompany the troops
to Des Moines, he being confined to big
quarters suffering from rheumatism.

Is visiting with her aunt, Mrs. Matilda.
Huyes, at this post.
Sergeant George Knight, Company B,
who was confined to the hospital and un
able to accompany the troops to Iw
Moines, has so far recovered as to be able
to return to duty and has been assigned
to Company H for rations and quarters.
The troops of this command will prob
ably be paid about Tuesday or Wednes
day at this post, and the remainder at
Fort Omaha some time later.

this city Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock.

the pipe organ, playing several selections

Ttev. D. C. Kratx preached his farewell
sermon at the Irvingloii Christian churon
last Sunday evening. Rev. Mr. Kratz haa
been minister of the lrvlngion Christian
church for four years, during which time
a church building has been erected and the
membership doubled. He will not leave
Irvington, but will make Ills home on lilt
small farm near Irvington.
Bert Twaddel died at his home a quartea
of a mile west of Irvington Thursday morn
ing. He was feeling quite well when he
arose and had not been In 111 health, for
some time. At the breakfast table he toon
sick and In a short time was dead. Dr.
Loechner was called, but was sble to render
no assistance. Mr. Twaddel's death wag
thoiiKht to have been caused by a sudden,
stroke of paralysis, lie leaves a sister, Mrs.
Miller of Irvington, and a brother Reg.
Twaddel of Benson.
