Burke, driven by Bcnyon, yesterday
won the Empire state stake of fl!,
000 for 2:14 trotters at the Grand
Circuit meet. The trotting division
of the Horse World stallion stake was
easily won by Colorado E., while Baroness
Eva won the pacing division of that event.
In the Chamber of Commerce stake for
2:09 trotters, Soprano took the flrst two
heats and was just beat by her big half
brother, Oro Bellini. In the third. As the
course was seconds slow by reason of Tues
day's rain, Ed Geers postponed until to
mtit row the attempt by The Harvester to
beat the world's stallion trotting record of

ABILENE, Kan., Sept. 15. Mrs. John A.
Flack, wife of the missing Ahllene bank
cashier, who arrived here last night said
today she left her husband in New York
late Monday morning. Mrs. Flack was
prostrated when she arrived here and
learned the condition of her husband's fi
nancial affairs and today she is 111 at the
home of a neighbor.
She said she had supposed that nothing
was wrong with the bank's condition ex
cept that the books were tangled until
Flack told her that he proposed going to
Galveston, saying: "They would be after
me." Then she declared that they must
return, but he refused. She took enough
money for her expenses and started home.
Mrs. Flack said that Flack had hut 3260
with him. She said her husband did not
allow her to read the newspapers and that
she did not know of recent developments
until she arrived at Topeka last night.
Mrs. Flack will claim only their personal
effects. The bank re-opened today for con
tinued liquidation. '

NEW YORK, Sept. 15.-Harry S. Hark
ness, the aviator, of . CleveJind, and mem
ber of a prominent family in that city, had
a narrow escape today when the mono
plane In which he was flying at the Aero
drome in Garden City, L. Iv, dived sud
denly to the ground from a height of twenty-five
feet. Harkness' machine was de
molished, but he escaped injury. This was
Harkness' first flight In America, He has
been known abroad for his feats in avla-
Uon and came to America to enter the
elimination trials for,, the
aviation meet next month.

Seven Hart la Wreck In Chicago.
CHICAGO, Sept. 16. Seven persons were
Injured In the railroad yards at Forty-second
street today when a Baltimore & Ohio
passenger train crashed Into the rear of
a Rock Island freight train. The accident
Is the fourth at this point during the last
eighteen months. The freight was by mis
take switched onto ths main track ahead of
the passenger carrier.
