In less than two weens construction work
will be started upon a big piano factory
somewhere In the city; according to plana
made by V. S. Segerstrora Piano company,
j now of Minneapolis. Mr. Segeratrom, presi
dent of the company, was in. Omaha
Wednesday, with the - Announcement that
he had come lo an understanding with the
Commercial dub for the removal,. (though
no- Donus naa oeen guaranteed Mm. t -'
The piano manufacturer declared ha had
received an affer -of $70,000 bonus from one
city, but had decided Omaha would be the
beat location-without any Inducements.
It ts proposed that the factory shall cover
an area of five acres and shall have 60,000
square feet of. floor.' space, according to
Mr. Begeratrom.
Army Notes
General orders No. U of the Department
of the Missouri,' Issued under data of Au
gust 29, announces that First Lieutenant
Ernest S. Wheeler ' of the Fourth Field
artillery, has been j found by a general
court martial, guilty of neglect of duty, to
the prejudice of good order and military
discipline,. In violation of the' S2d article of
war. .
Wheeler has been sentenced to be confined
to the limits of his post for a term of six
months and to ba reprimanded by the re
viewing authority. ,The court martial con
vened at Camp Otie, Wyo:, near Fort D. A.
Russell, and had as president Colonel Ed
gar 2. Steever of the Fourth cavalry, and
as Judge Advocate, Captain George E.
Btockle of the Eighth cavalry.
It was charged that during the maneuvers
at Camp. Otia, on July 8, Lieutenant
Wheeler, then In command of a battery,
was ordered by the battalion commander
to shift the fire, of the battery, which he
neglect to do, and, as a result, a private

The dty of Omaha has H70.822.10 left from
tax oollecUoAa for 1910. with which the. city
will be .run during; the remaining four
months of the year. Besides this amount
there Is a total of 134,030.90 In collections
from .bonds, and the sinking fund, which
is made up partly from the general-levy
and partly from occupation taxes and
similar sources, contains $8,00e.2. The
grand total of the city's present resources
is K72.865.62. ' v
There is also on hand.' according to the
report of the comptroller on the condition
of funds up to Auguat 22, t30S.661.4s, which
is laid aside for work 'now going on and
for expenditures which have been author
ised but not actually disbursed. Contained
in this total is the sum of 42,981.91, which
has been held since 1908 and which will be
paid over to the gas company if that cor
poration' ever gets a 1 Judgment for' street
lighting service. The company brought suit
and failed to collect for Its services at Its
own price. $2S a light, but the city has been
keeping on hand enough money I to meet
whatever price the courts may finally
award for the two yeara' lighting. In this
fund ISJ.70J.0S, collections from the sals of
bonds for street . Intersection paving and
repairs and the work which It will pay for
la now going on. The special levies made
for paving cover only the expenses of lay
ing the pavement straight down the street
and the special expenaee of Intersections
and alley waya and other incidentals are
paid from this bonded fund. ' The amount
held out for sewer operations now progress
ing ia 174,323.77 and for ' fire protection
$8,110. , . . ,. . . .
.The total, tax and bond .receipts for the
year so far have amounted to 12,335,179.81,
against which warrants have .been drawn
for 81.453,662.70, leaving a real balance of
1881,517.11. This balance is divided Into the
actual funds unexpended, $672,856.62, and the
funda for which disbursement has been
authorised amounting to $308,661.49.
