NEW YORK, Aug. 2. From a very weak
opening, today's stock market turned rawer
snarply and made a general recovery.
Trading was igain contracted and limited
to the usual market lead Reading, the Har
tin ana and United States Mieel these com
prising fully sixty per cent of the day s
small overturn.
The weakness was In no small measure
due to selling for London account or at
least to unloading, which was traceable to
that quarter.
On tne flock exchange tha point of view
respecting the Immediate outlook was
rather mixed. The large bear party un
hesitatingly attacked the market at every
favorable opportunity but Is showing In
creasing weariness.
In banking circles, surface conditions In
dicate that nothing Is being done to en
courage an advance, except tor the greater
ease of money, lnasmucn aa theae circles
control the springs of speculative supply,
It Is not unlikely that caah for such pur
poses may be obtainable when conditions
are more propitious.

CA'ITLE Recelnta of cattle were verv
large again today, making ths total for tne
wiu days of ths week 17,500 head. In spite
of the large runs tha market la in splendid
condition. Yesterday, with almost 400 cars
reported, early buyers wrs all out In the
yards in good season and tha way thsy
picked up the offerings at stronger prices,
ven. was a surprise, lt seemed as ir the
demand was so good that In spite of the
larger receipts buyers were afraid that
there would not be enough cattle to make
the rounds. Sellers were more than pleased
with results. This morning, with another
ery good run. the market again opened
early and fairly active buyers being ready
to look at cattle Just as fast as they could
do sfiapeo p auo mads ready to show.
The market on beet steers proved to be
very active again this morning, so much
so that desirable kinds were anywhere from
strong to as much as 10c higher. Good cron-
lects sold up to 88.0b, aa against Ji.ao yesterday.
Cows and heifers were also strong and
active and everything in sight changed
hands In very good season in the morning.
Good feeders wese active sellers st prices
that looked anywhere from steady to quite
iittia stronger, possibly 100 higher in
some esses.

higher again this morning. The sdvance
was mostly a dime. 'Somi business was
don during early rounds at figures no bet
ter than frfflOc higher, tut the market im
proved, late sales showing the full advance.
Supplies were moderate and demand easily
ample. Shippers bought more freely than
usual, takig about 2,000 head, snd to this
phase of the trado may be credited keener
demand and active movement. A perfect
clearance was made before midday.

first time since July, selected bacon hogs
reaching this figure. Bulk of good rights
moved around tS.85. Good mixed or medium

SHEEP Incoming trains are all heavily
burdened with sheep and lambs this week.
In fact, ths two days' supply is by far the
most llberul thus far this year. Today's
run was especially large, over 35,000 head
vhcwlng up. The big end of receipts con
sisted of feeders, of course, snd early
hours were largely devoted to shaping up
shipments ready tor sale.
properly, speaking, the main market was
reader market, iat stock values auoear
ing generally as side Issues. Strings of
both sheeo and lambs that carried good
killing ends sold straight to feeder buyers
at figures almost as high as those paid for
sorts.- inquiry irem an quarter was Droaa
snd orders were filled In greedy fashion
from U.e start. The more desirable feeding
sheep and lambs commanded steady price
aa a rule, with some o tne oil grades a
little lower. Feeding wethers sold at and
around 34.1094.16, with feeder yearling at
36.16 and better If they were light, terly
lamb sales Included a big bunch of feeders
at to. 30, this price calling lor no sorts.
Trade In fat stock was very late In gel
tine: started and while tho tons to the map
ket was rather weak prices paid wers little
different from those of yesterday. Some
snots wera a lit tin lower, but kinds tha
attracted comDetltlon went at quotably
steady figures. Demand was fstrly actlvs
ajid reasonably broad.
