Schults, who left here yesterday after tell
ing Station Agent Stoughton of the South
ern Pacific that he was Vound for Ger
many. Mrs. Castlne was last seen Friday when
she came from her ranch, four mile east
to receive a remittance of $6,000 from rela
tive In San Francisco.

woman was murdered as she drove Into her

An examination by an autopsy surgeon

body, half uncovered and mutilated by th

morning. A wide wound, evidently inflicted

Otto Schuls, the brother-in-law, who came

the search Agent Stoughton- recalled the
fact that Schults had purchased a ticket
for Loa Angeles, and , had said that he was
on his way back to Germany where both
the Schults and the Castlne families are
aid to be well connected. ,

EL. PASO. Tex.. Aug. 15.-W. fi. Robin
son, mayor of El Paeo, lest hi Jlfe at 8
o'clock this morning while endeavoring to
warn a number of firemen of Imminent
danger from tottering wall. At the same
time' Todd Ware, a fireman, was Instantly
killed and William Robinson nd Dav
Sullivan, also firemen, were Injured, th
latter perhaps fatally. - -
Tbe casualties followed, a fire that prokt
out at t a. nv in tha store of the Callsher
Dry Goods company, the largest depart
ment store tn this section., The fire had
burned for nearly seven hour and th
unsafe condition ' of th wall so Impressed
Mayor Robinson that he left the sidewalk
and approached tha building to Instruct
tbe firemen to stop further work.
As he approached' the building large
portion of th brick- wall buckled and fell,
crushing Robinson and Ware and knock
ing .th other men down, Mr. Robinson
witnessed the accident from tha sidewalk.
The origin of the fire is attributed to
crossed wire In the basement, where the
fire smoldered for over' two hour before
bursting Into flame. " A roomer sleeping

POINT ARENA, Cel., Aug. 16.-Four men
were killed late last night' when the boiler
of the steam schooner Phoenix blew up at
sea about ten miles north of the Point
Arnea lighthouse.' Two of the dead, Chief
Engineer Thomas Jlouston and Second
Mate Andrew ' Rasmussen, reached, shor
with the survivor of th Vessel, but died
tht morning t)f their Injuries. The man
